Talking about those flag looking things?
Indicate wind direction. But I always thought they shoukd go the other direction, because that's the direction a flag would be laying if the wind blew it over.

All of us online are very blessed to have our intelligence and intuition (we are all on this forum to proactively gain more knowledge on the situation). We are leaders in this scenario.

However, there are other good people (some neighbors) that just aren't at the same level of independence in this type of situation and need triggers like a contra-flow being open, emergency texts, local politicians pleading them in hourly press conferences to please leave if they can, etc. to help persuade them to follow the pack.

You can think of some. They needed the extra push to get out of harms way.

Also, multiple people in this thread noped out when they woke up and saw the updates.

So an emergency message would have made a difference in some cases.

People need to be aware that when the center clears the area, that doesn't mean bad shite isn't still going to happen.

When Ida makes its turn and pulls off of the coast, we are likely to see some pretty good bands develop and be pulled across the same areas that were hit by the eyewall and main part of the storm. These bands can dump significant rain.

Both the NAM and the HRRR have been showing this for a couple days now. The HRRR is more robust with it at the moment.

Be safe and keep an eye out if you go out after the storm pulls Northeast.

Honore was just on the weather channel saying they had just as much to evacuate Nola as there was for Katrina.

bet half of Nola residents didn’t leave. It’s going to bad in the aftermath.

My parents stayed mainly because I had to for work and I don't think they could evacuate without my help (driving and moving stuff)... between work and them staying Im not looking forward to the next week or so.

Exactly. Contraflow would have allowed more people to leave, which would have saved many lives. Too many people will die because of this incompetent mistake by officials.

Why are we pointing fingers at decisions and not people taking responsibility for their own actions?

Nobody prevented anyone else from evacuating.

Agree totally, but there's always that one that yacks about traffic being "just as bad as staying", etc.
But, IMO, if the ability to accommodate more by opening up more lanes is feasible, it should have been done.

I have multiple friends who have had water go into their house (not a lot, but enough to ruin floors) from their pool overflowing and the drainage not properly setup to handle it. This is due to rain flooding, not surge.

So you’re saying if they had no hole with water in it, but flat ground in that place, they would not have flooded?

Not much probably to it. Lafayette would have been a fine evacuation spot.

You may not need someone to yell you, But there are many people that don't have your mentality and blessings.

The ELECTED "leaders" could have planned and informed better. NO contraflow when you have a thousand national guardsmen available. Come on.

Your best bet really is watching the mets in tv and elsewhere now. We're just about to the "Nowcasting" stage and models won't have much practical use.

Yeah, the roads were clear this morning with no traffic. Anyone could have left if they wanted.
