It’s really turning up in Grand Isle

If not wanting to leave because of the evacuation traffic was bad, that's on you.
Stop looking for someone else to blame your bad decisions on.
Nobody prevented anyone else from evacuating.
I can only speak for Nola, but I just ran to get some supplies and there’s absolutely no one on the road. I don’t think traffic is why people aren’t leaving.

So you’re saying if they had no hole with water in it, but flat ground in that place, they would not have flooded?
There is probably some factor of having a pool designed to retain water vs a lawn that can absorb water, but whether that will flood your house on its own, idk

Not a chance in hell if I was in New Orleans right now I’d get in my car and drive to Mobile
Powerful bands already passing through that area
If you are delayed for any significant time getting out of the city you’re going to be stranded
I think at this point if you’ve stayed, you’re in it

People could still hightail it out of there

#BREAKING Water has spilling onto HWY 90 in Biloxi, closing eastbound and westbound from Rodenberg Ave. and St. Charles Ave.
Find an alternate route and expect more closures like this as Hurricane Ida gets closer

Your best bet really is watching the mets in tv and elsewhere now. We're just about to the "Nowcasting" stage and models won't have much practical use.
I left with my kids and left some family behind that wouldn’t leave and I don’t have access to a tv right now. I’m curious where the eyewall is and where it’s headed

Never seen the models whiff so bad on intensity. literally 30mb lower than what was predicted.

No kidding.
I think about the large amount of homeless and impoverished people I saw all over New Orleans. The rundown homes on banged up streets in neighborhoods I drove through.
Does anyone really think these people followed along with the meteorologists and had a means/understanding of evacuating? Especially when the government isn’t treating it as the emergency that it is? Or facilitating a smooth evacuation of a region with a million people?
Lots of people are going to be in for a hard time when they didn’t have to be.

WAFB has the Grand Isle police chief on the phone. He has 8 other officers there with him. I hope they don’t all die.
He listed the hurricanes he’s been through there. He’s never been through a hurricane like this.

That’s just one tiny intersection with water. You can go around. The rest of 90 is free of water and traffic.

Saw that 28+ people stayed on grand isle. Wtf were they thinking?

Any elected official along the gulf coast should never be caught off guard by a major hurricane around August/September, yet I’m going to guess that a whole lot operate under the “well maybe it’ll turn” assumption in the early stages of formation
I can think of at least 3 elected officials in Louisiana that are too busy sticking their hands out to the feds about COVID cases and mask mandates to have time to give a shite about a hurricane.

How does Grand Isle not end up 10 ft under water during peak surge? Not sure how anyone is staying.

If you can, download RadarScope on your phone. Use just Reflectivity and Velocity and you can track the eyewall yourself if you need to.

Michael deepened more in the central gulf.
Michael deepened to 919 as it came ashore over Mexico Beach. The two are actually very similar.
