Just watched a video one of their firefighters posted about 30-40 minutes ago on Facebook. He took a drive on the island so people who left could see current status.
The fire station is pretty damn solid. I think the only huge concern is how high the water will get on that backside. That area where the station is, that part of the island has always seemed to be a bit of cover for storms.

There was always potential for rapid intensification. They predicted a major hurricane over a day in advance. There are too many factors that could prevent a storm from reaching this intensity, why would the try to predict a cat 5 with 170 930mb only to have it cause a panic and the storm stalls out? Then people would harp about the miss during the next storm.
If a cat 3 coming right at you doesn't get you moving, 30 mb lower wouldn't either.
