Made it to the north shore. No traffic on the causeway

The best case scenario, is this thing goes straight up the Basin, like Andrew did in '92. The Basin can absorb all the energy, and hopefully significantly weakened by the time it hits BR/CenLa.

The guys on the news say don’t read too much into the jog. But of course this board is all of a sudden like “if you’re in N.O. you need to GTFO now”. I don’t know.

"everyone from the old tiger/camel truck stop to Scuttlebutts is going to get 110mph sustained" is quite the irresponsible tweet.

I disagree.
Obviously baton rouge has the high ground, but nola can trigger the spillway, blow i10 bridge at lutcher, then execute a pincher move using the west banks finest mercenaries goin up 3127 en masse.
Eta- it would be glorious

With the slight shift eastward Ascension might be on the west side of the eye. If that happens, can we still reasonably expect 100mph winds? I gotta think being that close to even the western part of the eyewall would still be intense.
I may be off here, but I like the idea of North winds blowing the water out.

This is a perfect example of a post that sends these off the rails.

It’s solid traffic at 20mph or less from the 12-10 merge East in Slidel all the way to the Tunnel in Mobile. At least people are getting out
Westbound is wide open

Checking in from I10 East just into Escambia County. Louisiana plates on every vehicle that passes. Y'all be safe if you're on the roads, be safe if you're riding it out back home.

I don’t think I understand these weird posts. Are you arguing that it’s not possible at that latitude or it isn’t happening with Ida?
Because the former is total horse shite. Baton Rouge has avoided a catastrophic storm impact by pure dumb luck over the years. It isn’t vulnerable to storm surge, but it is vulnerable to a wind threat from hurricanes.
Andrew was intense, but small enough to skirt to Baton Rouge’s west. Gustav was bad, but much less intense than it could have been. The worst of Katrina mostly passed to its east. The worst of Rita to it’s west. Baton Rouge got lucky in all of those storms.
