With the slight shift eastward Ascension might be on the west side of the eye. If that happens, can we still reasonably expect 100mph winds? I gotta think being that close to even the western part of the eyewall would still be intense.

Rds and duke — what are your thoughts?

Same.

Maybe slightly different levels of worst case.

. That’d be very impressive to say the least and catastrophic. But I doubt it. If BR actually gets sustained winds above 110mph I’d be shocked. I think GUSTS pushing 95 are possible and is what I saw on NOAA’s forecast for BR for around 3:00am Monday. Certainly no picnic obviously, on the order of Gustav impacts.

KBTR had a gust of 91 for Gustav. I'd be very surprised if Baton Rouge didn't have 100 mph gusts. And that's north at the airport. In the southern part of BR and in Ascension it will be a little stronger.

Recon put the 21z VDM about 8 miles SW of the NHC 4:00 pm fix. The 974mb is about 5mb higher than the 12z HWRF & HMON for 21z.

100mph sustained wind in BR would be devastating. Power out for a week and fence companies bout to get paid.

I'm not sure evacuating NOLA is a good call, unless they think the levees will be breached again.

What’s the opinion on the Northshore area (mandeville, madisonville, covington) at this point? Woke up this morning with it looking like it wouldn’t be terrible, but looks to have gotten worse as the day has progressed

Basically that we now have an accurate center plot, and that it isn't quite as strong (pressure wise) as model guidance had it at this point.

What's the real talk about expected winds/intensity?

The WWL guy is hedging so much that I can't tell what the frick the possibilities are.
