Yall think New Orleans can handle 12-16" of rain?

More concerned about the amount of water pushed up the river and into the city thanks to the surge.

Really gonna suck for NOLA if it shifts East.

My parents live in Shenandoah with several big trees by the house. I’ve suggested they go stay with my brother in Destin. His response was I’m watching weather underground closely and it doesn’t seem like we’ll be that bad. What should I tell

Same here. My adult kids live in apartments, they'd rather ride it out in the apartment. This will be their first hurricane, they grew up in North Texas. We moved back here 7 years ago.

We're talking Cat 4 vs Cat 2 here.

A slow moving strong 2 vs a relatively quick moving 4 (allegedly). Gustav’s winds pounded for hours on end.

Again, not claiming to be a bad arse. I won’t be outside for most of it

So during Katrina…I watched pine trees snap like twigs in front of my house…and never heard one pop. The wind roared so loud, I couldn’t hear the trees snapping into.

20 feet away.

Lakeview, mid city and Broadmoor? Heck no. Most of uptown, FQ, Metry and Kenner will be fine

that I needed to stay at the camp in Belle River which is 11 miles up highway 70 from MC.

Honestly…why would you do that? I’m curious behind of the reasoning.

No. Neighborhoods that never flooded before flood now.

I saw some shite happen to giant oak trees, as it was happening, that I didn’t think was possible

During Katrina, every 5-10 minutes there would be a big crack and a pine tree would snap in half. None of the big Oak trees came down but did lose quite a few limbs. They looked bad but were alive. But a couple years back, one of those damaged big Oaks finally died. And this summer, it looks like another damaged big Oak has died. I will wait a year or so to make certain before cutting it down.

Hurricane #Ida has emerged north of Cuba with a slightly higher central pressure (~991 mb), but retains near-hurricane force winds in the NE quadrant at a small radius. This general structure is likely to facilitate a resumption of intensification fairly soon. Not the best news.
