We moved back in 2014, because hubs parent's were 85 and "they could die any day". We relocated back to his old office and his Texas salary came along for the ride. We were doing great. Then his company closed the Baton Rouge office. He struggled to find a job that paid half of what he was making, we had kids at LSU so we sucked it up.

His parents are still alive at 97, by the way.

I am ready to go.
I am certain it's abundant. I have two daycares in my area that never have anyone there. No cars for workers even.
My son lives in the apartments near there and he told me something is always going on at that bank.

Management, specifically call center-- with a sales component, sales were down, so I was booted out. It is in an industry that is being hit with low/slow sales, tied to home sales.

I am slowly getting myself out of sales because the industry I can work in here has been hit hard.

Unemployment rate LA

Does anyone know the actual unemployment rate in LA currently? I was laid off in December for the second time in a year and a half.

Just wondering if anyone has an idea, as it's really tough out there.

As someone who just lost a job due to restructuring, take the hint and be grateful for it. It's rough out there. I was a fairly well compensated manager. It's going to be rough to find a new role that pays as much.

Have to be military for USAA right?

My Father in Law served in Korea. He's 95, when he was 90, he called USAA with my husband, and in about 30 minutes we had a membership. He had to tell a few stories to the representative. So it took a while to sign up.

It sounds like you had Louisiana Citizens. They are the insurer of last resort and statutorily required to have the highest rates. Why your agent steered you to Citizens is baffling.

Did not have citizens.

True, and it's just greed- and elected officials that don't care.

Nope, not CEO -- If I was, I certainly would not be living here. I would have moved long ago.

Got my homeowners renewal

Posted by latxwoman on 5/24/25 at 8:08 am
I got my homeowners renewal yesterday. It was for 8,500 a year. For a home built in Shenandoah in 1977, No claims did not flood. It had been creeping up every year, and it is making my mortgage unaffordable.

I called USAA and got a quote for 2700. Same coverage. When I canceled with my agent, he told me the state approved an increase of 30-40 percent annually. I could tell he was upset that he lost a big commission from the renewal.

It's decisions like this that keep people poor in this state. Want to know why everyone moves? It's this kind of thing.

This is my last year here. I won't be here for the renewal. I don't care if I have to rent my home to get out. I thought I'd post this so anyone that is facing a similar situation can call USAA. ( If they have a membership)
2008 Honda CRV I inherited from my Mom in December 115,000 miles
2001 Toyota Camry I inherited from my Mom 149,000

2000 Ford 150 Sport 189,000. It's for sale, needs tires and an AC. Runs great.

2025 Toyota Corolla Cross 1200 miles.
When I see the Mexicans towing cars on 1-12, I tell my daughter in Spanish( the bit I know)- Look at that a##hole man -

She tells me to quit being "racist". I am Spanish, not Mexican, but grew up in Houston.
You can't take that much out of an ATM, it has a daily limit.
[quote]Guy above me id correct too, there is a cottage industry in SSNs. They only pay in and can't ever collect so who cares[/quot

As a victim of identity theft, it's frustrating.

I filed for unemployment in August after a lay off. I supposedly worked at four construction companies in Baton Rouge. I've never worked in construction in my entire life.

When I reported it to Louisiana Workforce, they did nothing.

Not that I'm doubting you, but were is that info coming from? No matter what you read, there are no illegals getting social security/ssi benefits (unless a complex case of ID theft), I know that for a fact.

Hate to break it to you, but the majority of them work "legally" with a social that they stole from someone. I ran a cleaning service based out of Colorado. We purchased a new service and asked exisiting employees for their ID's. Some gave us one that was different from the one originally given to the prior owners. They get multiple socials, sometimes with different names. They do "pay taxes", but they commit identity theft, so they should be out on their keisters. They do get benefits. They usually have kids, and their kids qualify, they work, but the social is stolen, so there's no proof of income, so they rake in housing ( kids can't be homeless), food stamps, medicaid ( mom qualifies because she has kids)

How do I know? They told me about all the benefits they got, and I was paying them on average $23 -25 an hour to clean homes full time. They did not always do great work and worked slow to get more hours.

I had several white and black employees, they worked hard, got no benefits, and did not "work the clock".
