First off....do you live in Grand Isle, Shreveport, or Santa Fe? Pretty important here.

Last big hurricane (Ida?) I was standing in the kitchen when the power went out. I thought "oh shite, here we go..." Twenty seconds later everything came back on and cold AC came out of the vent.

I thought, "that generator just paid for itself." I repeated that thought daily over the next two weeks until I got power back.

So, if you live somewhere susceptible to hurricanes and the possibility of an extended power outage, frick yes it is worth it.

We got one after the Houston derecho and a couple months later the hurricane that passed through. Lost power for over a week for each occurrence. Of course we've been without power maybe a total of half a day in the two years since we've gotten it and it was because of work they were doing on the lines and not storm related haha.

Yes. We got one of those home generacs with an auto switch that turns on as soon as the power goes out and shuts off when it returns.

Do you have the extra money? If yes then it is. If not get a portable one.

Instead of a stand-by generator, I had an electrician wire me up with an interlock. It's not as convenient but I can hook up the generator I already have and run whichever breakers I need.

I say they are worth it. I’ve had them installed on my last two houses.

We randomly lose power at my current house when there are decent thunder storms. Never out two long but it was out for a couple days during the hurricane that hit 2 years ago.

1000% worth it.

I'm surprised they're not more prevalent in the South.

Depends on whether the expense will hurt and how often you lose power. Would I have liked having one in 2021 when Ida came through? Absolutely. Would I be somewhat annoyed if I had gotten one after Ida and then haven’t lost power for more than an hour or two at a time for the half decade since? More than likely

worth every penny. I have a 26kW Generac and a 10kWh battery now with a Span running the show at the house in Houston. At the ranch i run a big solar setup and 4 powerwalls. I don't think i'll ever own a house without full backup capability.

Yes. Initially thought it was a waste of money since we went a couple years without power loss but once you get to sit in A/C in Sept while others are sweating, you realize it is worth every penny.
