I already moved away from St George after the first petition failed - I had signed at the exact same time on the same sheet with my neighbor and her name was listed on the final petition but mine was left off and not on the list of excluded names. I brought this up to the organizers after the first petition "failed", hopefully they're prepared for more of this b.s. the second time around.
I had friends with similar stories..they signed and their names were thrown out stating they didn’t live in the proposed area. They lived smack dab in the middle of included areas and had been paying taxes and registered to vote as such for years. The first petition “failing” was a joke.

I don't understand why anyone at this point would choose not to sign.

It’s people without kids who are scared their taxes will go up.

It's also the people with kids in the magnet program who have their own private school system and really don't give a damn about the rest of the kids.

Here is the feed from The Advocate's FB Page.
I don't have time to watch the 50 minute video, can you give the highlights? Was anything new or was it mostly just a presentation?

Like the 2-3 that went up last election a month or two ago with.... wait for it....

For real. If the taxes go up that would be a bargain to not have to be associated with that atrocity of an administration currently in office

There may not be, but be sure the Advocate will be screaming about it tomorrow.

If i can send my kids to public school and taxes go up by less than 5k a year then then it is a win for me.

Nice presentation. They confirmed that they have in excess of 10,000 signatures.

Wow, just read this piece, AND I watched the video. Once again The Advocate leaves out all the details and only publishes the bias review in opposition. What a rag.

If SG taxes go up it will only because folks in our neighborhoods vote to raise them.
And hopefully with a new school system SG will grow the population enough that along with Central, Zachary and unincorporated EBR we can become the majority and all these parish taxes we have now can be better evaluated and better studied instead of being pushed through by BR.
Parks and libraries are important, but we have other needs that are important too. These other entities need to be scrutinized as to whether or not they need the same level of funding.

What do you expect. The Advocate is part of the establishment.

This is what many fail to bring up when trying to scare folks with tax raising claims

People are always arguing about whether the taxes will need to go up or not as though this is a brand new situation that has never occurred before. What happened with the taxes in Central? That should be a pretty good indicator.
(FYI I have never lived in Central so I don't know what the taxes are like there.)

Are taxes going down in the City of BR? No.

Nothing exposes the excessive library spending better than the downtown boondoggle that is currently NOT under construction.
