I was told by a big name real estate agent that it will be hard for St. George to operate because the big business parks on Seigan (Target and Big Lots across the street) have already annexed themselves out of St. George because the businesses get a kickback staying in BR

The truth is once St. George happens then the breakup of the cityparish form of government we have here will inevitably happen.
That will be the best thing for the parish. I’ve harped on the excessive amounts of money our libraries have. I’m glad St. George has paid attention to that fact. We need to reduce our parish library taxes. They do not need to be renewed at any point in the next 30 years.
Why do we have a tax for sobriety court? It’s ridiculous the amount of taxes that have passed I’m random April election periods. I think we should require at least 25% turnout of a political subdivision vote for any tax to pass against its people.

Maybe so. Central, Zachary and Baker probably weren't big enough to move the needle. St George probably would be

It's not their fault nobody shows up to vote against them.
And y'all are struggling to get less than 25% to sign a petition. And y'all go to their houses for them.

Are you serious? The votes happen in April for a reason. If they put taxes on the ballot during a mid term election or an presidential election it wouldn’t pass. You could put it with the Governor election and it wouldn’t pass.

Ok.
Whose fault is that?
What's stopping people from voting "no" in April?
Obviously it's not a big enough issue for people to take an hour out of their Saturday to go vote.

It’s almost like you don’t know voter turnout numbers for different election types and dates.
For what it’s worth, 9% is actually higher than expected for such a vote. You’re usually looking at closer to 5-6% aka the city workers who are told and pressed about the tax and go and vote yes on it and the elderly in the 75+ age range who are usually brought in or vote absentee and are told “if you vote no you’ll get less xyz”

Struggling? St George is on track to get their required signatures ahead of time

WHOSE frickING FAULT IS IT THAT THEY DON'T GO VOTE?

The city needs to happen to facilitate the ISD.
Just popping in to remind people that this is technically untrue. There is literally zero legal basis for such a claim. The only people who have ever said this were members of the black caucus and of course people that want the city to be formed. LOL if you believe the black caucus will suddenly vote for the ISD just because a city was formed.
Anyway, since I'm talking about facts, the ISD will also have to pass a popular vote in EBR parish. Good luck doing that after you form the city.
I mean, I live in Central and don't care if a new city is formed but it does kind of annoy me that untrue things are widely repeated as fact. I truly believe the push for an ISD was never about an ISD at all, but was really about going after getting a new city formed.

The republicans and their racist arse voter ID laws, right?
Btw. No need to yell brotato. We both know they choose these small and low turnout elections to put taxes on and we both know why.

Oh that time they annexed parts of the petition area midway through? Or how about The part where they threw out signatures for stupid frivolous reasons? Oh your signature isn’t 100% identical to your signature from 8 years ago? Rejected!
Oh you put your middle initial when you signed but your voter registration doesn’t have an initial? Rejected!
It didn’t pass last time because of bullshite. You know it, I know it. Everyone knows it.
Just like we all know it’ll go to a vote this time.

It's not a conspiracy you idiot.
There's nothing keeping people from voting in these ballots except malaise and laziness.
So obviously the people really don't care about these taxes.

I don't disagree with your sentiment but what does incorporating a city have to do with the library system? Which library system do you think they use in Central, Baker, and Zachary?
What you need to do is form a new taxing district for a new library system which is a political subdivision of the state - not the parish.

You mean the parts that asked to be annexed because SG included them without consent, then told everybody that they wouldn't be taxed more because those businesses would be taxed to fund the government?
Wonder why those businesses wanted out of your Utopia.
