These guys couldn't put together a winning product on such a slam-dunk agenda the first time around. Duh, lets get better schools. What was so hard about that? They had to make it about race and ended up getting votes thrown out.

I don't have time to watch the 50 minute video, can you give the highlights? Was anything new or was it mostly just a presentation?

Here is a presentation that is all the info stated at the conference, but it's about 20 minutes.

St. George Presentation

ETA: Part 2 added and is about 8 minutes long.
Part 2

You really have no idea what the hell is going on.

I guess I don't. When the only people allowed to sign a petition are those who will benefit, and you still can't come up with 25% approval, you're doing something wrong.

I was told by a big name real estate agent that it will be hard for St. George to operate because the big business parks on Seigan (Target and Big Lots across the street) have already annexed themselves out of St. George

“Big name real estate agent” is an idiot. Because that didn’t happen. And it can’t. Once the petition is filed for incorporation as it is now, they can’t ask for annexation into the city. Not to mention, they don’t have access to those businesses right now anyway. Has to be contiguous property and it isn’t contiguous to city limits. Who did annex was the mall (not the stores surrounding it), and the Siegen north mall and south mall areas....Walmart, Sam’s, Lowe’s, etc. They didn’t make it to target and such up Siegen. There were others that annexed, but that is it in that corridor.

They got enough signatures. When the judge in the case disputing the Registrar of Voters claim says the organizers could not dispute, but the law says they can, whatever was done wrong wasn't on the St. George organizers.

They don't even need 25%

Parkview. I guess tuition is really about 10k but when you tack on cafeteria plan and fees it's 12k.

So if SG went through is it free to create its own independent school district? Does it have to be voted on? And if so by who?

St. George has it in the bag if they just talk how great the Cyfair and Katy ISDs are doing with amazing schools and results all while spending several thousand less per student than EBR parish.

It's a slippery slope. Louisiana already has a higher tax burden than TX plus having to spend money on private schools

Having a baby soon, so I’m exploring. Reasons I need a good public school system to happen in St. George

You can find a good private school for 5-6k through middle school if you'd prefer to stay in BR. Our Lady of mercy and St George are 2 that come to mind.

I'd move back to the burbs before I put my daughter in a non magnet BR public school

Yeah it’s high school I’m most worried about. Catholic schools are affordable until high school. Park view is technically cheaper than catholic at st. Joseph’s but primary school is almost double the others so it’s a wash.

As been discussed numerous times, the immediate goal is a city. The city needs to happen to facilitate the ISD.

Nothing is guaranteed, but the status quo isn't going to stop the stagnation we see now.

We live right near Parkview and aren't Catholic so it was the logical choice. If I had more than one in school we'd probably move.
