Be an unincorporated colony of Baton Rouge or you are racist. Got it.
Makes total sense in some alternative dimension I’m sure.

Because of the unique form of government that EBR and BR used to be. All the money from the entire parish went into one coffer.
Okay, but if someone lives in St. George now what taxes automatically converted from parish to city taxes? I’m just not sure taxes do that without some kind of law? BTW, I don’t live in Baton Rouge so if I sound ignorant about this, it’s because I am.

The issue is that the area where most of the money was coming from was not getting in return a good ROI, for lack of better term.
I keep hearing this line of thought expressed differently from both sides, but it makes little sense. The city of Baton Rouge has a vast majority more of the commercial and industrial properties. St. George appears just to have neighborhoods. It would seem when this is all said and done Baton Rouge would be similar to what Baton Rouge is today and St. George would be similar to the Walker/Denham Springs area in terms of funding. What am I missing?

She’s threatened them again with jail.

"It's on an application for rehearing. The judgment is not final. I don't know how many times I got to say that?" Pierson said.
The rehearing request argues that the Supreme Court didn't determine the official date of incorporation or city boundaries for the city, which are required by state law.
"If they spend one penny of taxpayer dollars on the salaries for those people that they've now sworn in to a non-existent city, they run the risk of going to jail." Pierson said.

She was quick to bring up money. They really can’t afford to lose their cash cow.

It’s all about sales tax. There is a 2% sales tax currently paid to the parish, which will become a city tax following incorporation.

There are some pretty significant commercial areas that were part of the St. George incorporation. Baton Rouge annexed those areas following the initial court ruling against St. George. That will be the next fight - if the St. George incorporation is retroactive to 2019, then Baton Rouge will have illegally annexed those areas.

Sales taxes are derived from commercial transactions, vehicle sales (sales taxes go to where car purchased resides), construction materials and equipment and restaurants.
The estimate sales tax for SG City is about 45 million per year. That is from the 2% that was going to the parish general fund, but will now go to SG.

She mad.
The judgment may not be final yet but it is pretty much a given. If she wants to frick with the Governor and his appointees on this issue, he can find ways to make it very uncomfortable for EBR Parish as a whole.

MOP filed a request for rehearing of the case. I'm beginning to think she has something one one of the justices and will flip him/her. She just needs one. Besides, the state Supreme Court has yet to deny her request which is starting to make me worry.
This indeed still bothers me. The longer it simmers, the worse feeling I get about it. I don't believe in wins at the civic planning level anymore. Incorporating a city in Louisiana seems like something they're not gonna let us have.
I'll celebrate when they say "no re-hearing" but until then, I can't get my hopes up. I've seen them dashed too many times on the SG issue..

The optics of a white governor appointing a white mayor, white police chief and 5 white aldermen are horrible & undergird the claims St. George is "all white." And white judge Hunter Greene performed the sweating-in.
The demographics within the boundaries are not all white, but man this looks terribly racist.
At this point, after all the slander about racism and "gerrymandering" thrown at St. George, do you really think they give a rat's arse about "optics"?

Didn’t she already get dismissed from the case for no standing at the JDC level?
I want to say she was one of the three original plaintiffs with SWB and Cole. One got tossed at the JDC level, SWB got tossed at appeal. I think Cole got tossed at the state SC.

If the bitch is so worried about Baton Rouge's money she should sell her house in Westminister and move to Broadmoor.

Motivation wasn’t racism you simple minded dumbfrick.
It was awful schools and taxes paying for things we didn’t receive.
That’s literally it. But keep being completely blind to facts.

Race cards are a lot more convenient for the BR side than facts, so the race cards will keep coming out.

Quite a bit. The St. George area is part of the parish but NOT within the city limits of Baton Rouge.
This all started as a fight over schools. St. George wanted its own school system, and the mayor fought it. She basically told them they needed their own city to do that. Well, okay then!
Now mind you, she is the Mayor-President, which means she is the Mayor of Baton Rouge AND the Parish President. She has personally fought tooth and nail against the wishes of her own people. It's completely un-American.
Furthermore, I personally pay quite a bit on my property taxes toward EBR Schools, the EBR library system, etc. I would literally sell one of my kidneys before I sent my kids to any school within the attendance zone for my house.

take a walk through any EBR public school and anyone crying racism will understand quickly why people are upset about how their tax dollars are being spent.
You can claim racism all you want but being forced to pay for private school tuition K-12 is a huge reason why the city is hemorrhaging its middle class to outlying areas with at least semi respectable public schools.
