People will say it's excessive, but I read up on this and Spectrum was HORRIBLE. They basically didn't do any background checks on technicians and they deleted surveillance video that showed the technician going in and out of their yard multiple times on the day of the murder.

Oh, and apparently tried to forge some document in an effort to push the case out of court and into private arbitration

Spectrum deserves what it gets for that shite (though Cox Cable would have still sent her a bill for the service call too after the guy killed her).

My brother works with one of the deceased's grandsons. The whole thing was awful. Apparently spectrum destroyed evidence, fabricated evidence, lied, and in general orchestrated a big cover up. Jury was punishing them.

Of course the reward will be reduced, but that explains the $$$.

Hope the family gets to turn off the lights & padlock the doors at Charter/Spectrum then.

It will be remitted (reduced) on appeal, reversed in some form or settled for way less. That is symbolic to large degree. No way they get anywhere close to that amount. That said, the facts of this case must have been pretty heinous on the part of Spectrum and how they hire and maintain its employees. Interesting thanks for sharing.

Not familiar with the Texas appellate courts, but the Louisiana Supreme Court would take a hard look at that one I believe. No punitive damages here, but the generals are pretty crazy too.

I also heard, but admittedly can’t source, that they billed the deceased for the technician going on site

Not only did they stop doing background checks

Why is this, Mr. Left-winger? Could you please explain why corporations would stop this practice? And who is responsible for pressuring companies into this insane policy?

Beats a low score on Spectrum's customer satisfaction survey.

Holden, who worked as a field technician for Spectrum at the time of the slaying, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison in April 2021.

The plantiffs’ attorney Ray Khirallah said that during his divorce, Holden had experienced insomnia and frequent crying spells, and that at one point he thought he was a former Dallas Cowboys player whose career went south after he became paralyzed. The company, Khirallah said, had “too many” chances to do something.

Ridiculous. You'd think he'd go after the ex-wife then. He must have wanted to throw his life away and chose an elderly woman.

Compensatory damages is a small part of that. Most of it is punitive due to the actions Of the company.
