I think one of the most significant issues we’re dealing with currently that he mentioned briefly is social media. Social media is almost entirely a facade. People post what they want other people to see giving people a severe false sense of other’s reality. People post these pictures of these lavish vacations or happy family photos when in reality they’re in massive debt or on the brink of divorce. People then see these mirages so to speak and wonder why their lives aren’t that great meanwhile they’re doing the same thing on their social media. It’s keeping up with the Jones’s on steroids. Social media has become a cultural cancer.

I watched an acquaintance of mine -- I won't call them a friend --- go through a divorce, find new "love" in a rather quick fashion, and post every happy picture of themselves and their new partner for a short while.

Today, zero. Apparently, they have broken up, and it's nothing but self-help quotes and memes.

I like to say with social media, everyone's on their phone, but no one's talking.

And he was very correct that divorce affects women greatly afterwards. Men take the monetary brunt of it but we can form another relationship. Divorced women, especially with kids, tend to be considered tainted. Women have put value in taking the money but not their emotional happiness

There’s a guy that I follow on YouTube that says every post and sometimes much more often to remember “YouTube is a highlight video” and “real life isn’t like YouTube world”. He likes to talk about how long it took to film for his 20 min youtube and often times the footage takes 10-12 hours.

That’s pretty much social media in a nutshell.

It’s the death of relationships. My wife is on FB entirely too much. She calls me out for playing on here a lot, but ain’t no wolf pussy prowling these boards.

as opposed to Shirley Who works at dollar general and Bobby Lee who works maintenance at the local plant? That’s if they waited to get jobs before they started popping out babies, more likely they started even earlier before they were ever financially stable to do so.

I am interested in the religious vs secular aspect. I could see that having an affect but statistically speaking the longer you wait to have kids and the more money you have and the more educated you are the less likely you are to divorce. Also if your parents have or have not divorced is a major factor

Well spoken, very good interview. Of course most of the OT will say he's trashy since he has tattoos.

I found the anecdote about his female client that knew her marriage was over was when her husband stopped buyer her special granola when she ran low was humorous. He stopped buying her granola and she quit giving him blowjobs.

Agreed provided children aren't involved. The very worst outcomes are often for the men who were both financially ruined and lose access to their children.

A lot of those guys end up killing themselves. There needs to be default shared custody, automatic paternity testing, and criminal penalties plus loss of custodial rights for false claims of domestic or child abuse.

my wife literally unfriended me on social media but still posts family pictures of us all smiling and happy so that no one will suspect how miserable things actually are. i kind of think that's social media in a nutshell in 2023.

Im with you on this 100%. Not a great group to study then apply to the masses IMO.

Also, over time I have noticed that couples who actually have to struggle to make ends meet have a better relationship than those who have bountiful relationships. Nothing groundbreaking here just my observation.

You see a lot of dudes looking to break up marriages on Facebook?

And this board definitely has it fair share of hookups, cheating, etc. Quite a few in the IM threads backchannel like crazy while their SO has no clue.
