I do not disagree, but at the same time we really have no idea how much fraud is involved because it appears they do not fully investigate. Plus, the bigger issue with fraud is it accumulates when they keep getting the “free money” every month.

Simply identify as Somali and the government will shower you with cash.
Problem solved.
Problem solved.

The only way to bring the fraud under control at this point is to require everyone to reapply for benefits in say 2028. If they do not reapply, their payments would be discontinued. This approach would allow stronger safeguards to be implemented during the application process to identify and prevent fraud. Establishing a periodic reapplication cycle, perhaps every 5 to 10 years, could also help ensure a regular system reset and clean the books regularly of the fraud.

It vanished decades ago.
It vanished because it was stolen. Efforts to "fix social security" again and once and for all (via fully funded IRA Accounts) was stopped by Congress because the crooks (in Congress) needed the money to rescue the Lending Institutions. Lending Institutions stiffed by minorities who defaulted (excuse me - stole) their mortgage payments.
Your pal the democrats always saw the U.S.Treasury as a perpetual ATM from which they could confiscate (excuse me - steal) monies allocated for specific programs (aka Social Security).
Not my fault people voted in crooks who stole us blind. Thievery begets thievery.
It's our money.

Neither. Start cutting wasteful spending. And quit taxing seniors social security!

Is it "out of control" in the first place?
quote:
Social Security fraud represents a miniscule portion of the program's total payments, with official estimates often citing it as less than 0.1% of total benefits, and overall "improper payments"—which include innocent mistakes—rarely exceeding 1%. Direct fraud, such as misusing benefits, is extremely low, with one report placing it at just 0.00625% of the budget.
I’m not saying don’t investigate and try to eliminate it, but this is not the problem.

Social Security Disability Insurance pays out of the fund. I can pretty confidently say a lot of people are on disability who shouldn’t be. I agree though it isn’t like fixing the fraud would save the system.

About the only to "fix" it is massive reform, stricter means testing, and, attacking fraud.
Or, we could have people take responsibility for their own lives. Ha.

And you want your children to pay for the fact that yall were cheated.

Just so you know, you are on the same page with and your views are fully supported by the Democrats.
Maintaining the status quo and continuing SS with its current setup is 100% a Democrat position.
quote:Yes, they stole from you…and you fully support them continuing to steal from your children so you can “get your money”.
Thievery begets thievery.
That is what I find fricked up.

Meanwhile media NEVER covers the trillions in fraud.

Do you realize that in the next 6 years, the world economy will be totally different. AI will put even the workers who pay taxes out of work. You won't recognize the new world you will be in.

Wife and I have been paying into it since 1999 and maxing it out since 2013 or 2014. Working to 64 would have us paying into it for 47 years ?
Hopefully I’m retiring between 55 to 59 but still that’s an arse load of money we will have put it.
Yeah shite. We are 48 and 52. We've been paying into social security since 1990 and 1994.

Do people actually believe SS will cease to exist in 6 years?
Posted on 3/21/26 at 3:08 pm to TigerintheNO
Hilarious nobody really talks about this. Too many social issues like trannies and guns and Venezuelans to consider the solvency of our only social safety net.

There will be reduced payouts, increase in eligibility age or higher taxes.

Probably be another lab leak in the next 6 years. Kill off an even bigger segment of the over 65 folks.

How about - End it and return everyone's money that they have paid into it thus far so we can invest it the way we see best suits our needs.
I would love it if it were possible, but the reality is they can’t afford to do this. Up until 1968 our money was technically available, but the govt. started raiding it at that point to pay for other stuff. Should have never happened.

These threads are comical. If people would do just a little bit of research they would know if Congress does nothing to reform SS, benefits would still be paid at a 23% to 28% across the board cut. SS will not cease to exist.
