... the judicial system. Thus, even if the vague and heretofore-unsubstantiated suggestions that the players may have been advised to obtain judicial declarations in court were true... so, what?

Incorrect. "Individual" there means sued in their individual capacities, which they have been.
You are confusing the nature of the allegations with the contacts with the forum state sufficient to create personal jurisdiction. There is not personal jurisdiction if the contacts are merely in their representative capacities.
And they HAVE been sued in their individual capacities, which is why they are named as separate defendants in the lawsuit. Thus, the court needs personal jurisdiction over them individually, which, depending on the defendants' nature of their contacts with Alabama, the court may not have.
