None of the taxes you have paid will ever see your pocket.

Unfortunately I know very few people your age that save. In 30 years with no SS there would have to be a government welfare program created to replace SS since most people would have zero source of income. You are fine paying another five years of SS, what about those that paid into it for 40 years? It would have nice for them to have contributed that money to a 401K instead.

George W Bush had a lot of flaws but he was a proponent of a program to direct what would be SS taxes into a private investment fund.

Give your SS money to Israel and do it with a smile. Those who bless Israel will be blessed.

I don't think you appreciate the scale of SS spending. Those things you listed are nothing in comparison

yea these guys always preach about frugal spending and balanced govt budget but cutting ss and medicare is literally the only way the govt can balance the budget

At least its looking like medicare advantage will get cut where boomers can't use it to pay for massages, and gym memberships

Boomer communism is running rampant in this country but the fricksticks on here have their head buried in the sand

Cut benefits. Make sure no old people starve. Adjust benefits based on wealth, for everyone. Slowly kill program altogether. Everyone gets to “suffer” to unwind the mistake. Old people who have wealth but paid in a lot don’t get what they were promised (sucks). Young people that will never get anything get to pay in to unwind it (sucks).!Those who are really poor and rely in the pittance of SS, well being poor sucks already.

Eventually it goes away. Future generations not burdened with this mistake of a program.

I’m asking you where does this money come from then? If we had money this wouldn’t be a problem It’s super obvious some of you never had to budget money before

You’ve spent time here bragging about being wealthy, how about it gets taken from you?

Well, percentage-wise, the generations after Boomers have, at minimum, a rate of retirement savings equal to boomers, although they are trending higher.

They were cheated out of their money.

The difference between us, is I would gladly take the hit rather than pass the burden on to my children and future grandchildren.

All of the posters in this thread who are up in arms would rather “get theirs” and dump the burden of this program off on their children, even though they know SS is a crap system.

It would have been nice for the US government to do a lot of things, but they didn’t.

Suck it up and take the loss for the sake of the future.

On top of that, how much do most of you think is even paid out in SS funds monthly?

This entire thread involves people squabbling over $2000 a month.

Continue to sell your kids and grandkids into debt slavery for $2000 per month.

That is pathetic.

For people like me (53, will never need SS to survive) this is fine. For some current elderly, taking it away means they starve. My MIL was in this situation before she died. She owned a small home, but nothing else. Her entire income was 1800 a month from SS. She had substantial savings when she retired 15 years ago, it went to paying for Alzheimer’s care for her husband.

He's right.

It's a welfare program for people that lack the discipline to plan and save for retirement.

Anyone that supports it wholeheartedly is weak and soft and needs daddy gubment to support dem.

The intelligent, hardworking people were sold a bill of goods and it has morphed into a untouchable program.

"Free tuition" is horseshite, too, but most people dont realize it yet.

With as many people this country has, it shouldn’t need to be cut.
Now if birth rates plummet, then that’s a possibility

Are you suggesting that since it may be negligible, we should not concern ourselves with stopping it?

It’s not that we shouldn’t try to eliminate it but that’s not the problem. It’s sticking ones head in the sand blaming something else instead of tackling the actual issue. In the end it solves nothing

Still not enough kids being born now.

To reach replacement levels you need about 3-4 kids a couple. Now it is like 1.5 to 2.5. Crazy cat ladies with no children are some of the reasons why social security is drying up.
