If the older generations didn’t plan well enough to survive without that Ponzi scheme, too bad.
Hear, hear!
At the least, let all taxpayers below the age of 40 opt out.

Yeah I should have included the word continued

This thread has been enlightening.
An entire generation of parents who exist solely to suck wealth away from their children.

"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money" - Margaret Thatcher
Dude, know that if they're successful in "stealing Social Security" (which your pal Joe Biden and his democrat crooks did) then be assured they will come after your assets including but not limited to your checking account, your IRA's, your 401k.
FACT: In the eighties Congress implemented a plan that would keep Social Security solvent even after the retirement of the so-called Baby Boomer Generation. The democrats (including your pal Joe Biden) pulled the old bait and switch routine and stole the money.
It's our money........it better be there when we need it.

The only way to fund it is to suck it out of the younger generations.
And, once again, this posts highlights the inherent greed of it all.
You clearly know it is broken. You see how they lied and scammed us all.
Yet, your response is “I better still get mine”.
quote:The reason they will likely raid our 401ks is because y’all are unwilling to give up on a welfare program that you all know is broken.

Neither. Raise the retirement age.

Original intent was for retired workers , not spouses, dependent children under 18 and my favorite, "crazy checks:

One thing that really amazes me, SFP, is that all these supposed “conservatives” are acting like my anti-SS viewpoint is a progressive view.

It's our money. We (workers) paid into the system. It's OUR money.
At the end of the Bush II administration President Bush proposed setting up a fully funded IRA for each and every American - cost estimate was about $ 1.3 trillion dollars - pocket change for this government today. Your Deep State / Democrat pals in Congress said no.
Instead Congress spent the money on this TARP scheme to bail out failing lending institutions. The same lending institutions that your pal Bill Clinton strong armed to make risky mortgage loans to minorities. Mortgage Loans the minority homeowners simply defaulted on. The Lending Institutions were left with bill. We, the taxpayers, bailed the Lending Institutions out.
Funny how your folks suddenly have this convenient loss of memory when it comes to the Social Security theft.
Bottom line, it's our money. It's better be there when we need it. No benefit reductions either.

I've been living that for going on a decade now.
You're getting a tactile example of the in/out group irrationality from NPCs.
That + whataboutism is about 90% of their "arguments" these days.

It can't last, but we act like it will just continue forever. My generation might be the most fricked, pay into it for 30+ years and don't get shite.
Wife and I have been paying into it since 1999 and maxing it out since 2013 or 2014. Working to 64 would have us paying into it for 47 years
Hopefully I’m retiring between 55 to 59 but still that’s an arse load of money we will have put it.

Your problem Scruffy is your suggestion is a colossal frick you to everyone who is already retired.
Want to phase it out starting at say age 40, no problem, you won’t likely find a lot of conservatives who would be against it.
It will blow up the debt? Has anyone looked at the debt lately? What’s another trillion or 2.

Social Security is six years from insolvency.
Fund it as needed. Allow people 35 and under to put the money withheld from their checks into a mutual fund.
Cut all forms of welfare... problem solved.

As we have said over and over again, the money doesn’t exist.
You were robbed by your politicians.
Now, the question is, do you want your children to continue getting robbed just so you can “get yours”?
That is pretty disgraceful, IMO.
And your stance of trying to make my view the “progressive/Democrat” one is laughable.
Your want to continue the process of stealing from the young to pay the old is the most progressive stance possible.
Not to mention, you align with their views.

The management and oversight is the problem. I’ve paid into the system for 30 years and would like to benefit from it.
HOWEVER, the government needs to provide legit oversight, audits, and expose fraud. Instead they don’t do shite.

Not my fault these same multitude of so-called "young" defaulted on their college loans forcing us (the taxpayers) to eat the loans.
Everywhere we turn we see people stiffing the taxpayers or voting in crooks who are more than willing to scheme with foreign invaders to set up fake NGO's or fake Medic-aid clinics to stiff the taxpayers again and again.
It's our money. It better be there when we need it.

Sorry.
The only way you get it is by stealing from the young and continue this cycle.
Do with that info what you will.
