My father built a log cabin in the Virginia countryside on some ancestral land. During its construction skeletons were found which kicked off historical investigations. There are 2 grave markers in front of the constructed house so nothing shocking that these skeletons were found.
But when I first visited there it was pretty creepy at night. Not a living soul was within 5 miles and I had an odd feeling that I was being watched or something. Slept with a pistol while thinking, "what the hell am I going to do, shoot a ghost."
Feeling went away when I drank.

Since you're a renter, it may be safe to say the home you're staying in hasn't been properly maintained over the years.
The electrical problems can be a short somewhere in the system. If it's only been during these winter months, maybe the short is somewhere in the furnace.
If there's a problem with the furnace burning fuel properly, you could be suffering from a mild case of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Additionally, the wind from the storms, or even the ice and snow could have shifted your roof vents, or caused them to become clogged with debris.
Get yourself a CO detector stat, if you haven't already.
