What makes this so much worse than swine flu that these crazy arse precautions have to be taken?

Honest question because on numbers alone Corona isn't all bad.

Didn’t it just kill 360 Italians in 24 hours? That’s pretty bad.

200,0000 people would have the swine flu by now, and 10,000 deaths (in the US)

If you aren't alarmed by the number of cases jumping from the hundreds to 6,515 in one week, I don't know what to tell you

If dumbasses continue to go out and spread the virus, it's going to double again next week... and again next week

After the dust settled the swine flu wasn’t much worse that the regular flu.

This is much worse and what makes it so bad it’s a quiet killer that no one has ever seen before and they have no data on how to fight it or vaccinate for it

Because it is much more likely to kill the average american if they get it, and it is spreading at an exponential rate at the moment.

Corona appears to be about 50x deadlier by the numbers...

Overall CFR is looking to settle at .9% for a highly contagious agent.

I think the problem is that a lot of people don’t have a frame of reference of what these numbers “should” be. One out of a 100 across millions still arrives at a scary number.

On CDC’s pandemic index, this would be between a 3-4 depending where the final numbers end up.

It's not. The Swine Flu pandemic of 2009 was the same strain of flu virus that terrorized the world 100 years ago. It killed close to 1 million people worldwide from 2009-10, infected almost a billion, and very little was made over it.

I hear it's more dangerous. I was wondering the same thing though.

Five logical responses in this thread already? We are living in a really messed up world right now. Country is on lock down, toilet paper cannot be found anywhere and worst of all the OT is making sense.

Tends to happen when more testing is available. I don’t think anybody is arguing that there aren’t already 20,000 or so cases floating around. That is probably a really low number now.

How did you get these numbers? Didn’t H1N1 kill 12,500 Americans total? In about a year? How do you get 10,000 US deaths in the first month?

I fully expect you to stay at home from now on. The Flu will still kill more than this. And more people will die of food poisoning.

Because Trump is in charge now and Obama was in charge during the swine flu. That’s why the media did this. Those evil fricks will do anything to try to replace Trump.

You know the number jumped because more tests were available, not because the virus became "more contagious", right?

Calm down, Karen.
