Also, from what I’ve seen, is that if you develop pneumonia, it’s pretty much never mild as opposed to a bell curve of severity like with the flu.

No it is not. This thing is killing old people. H1N1 was killing perfectly healthy people in their 20s and killing children. The average American isn't 90 sitting in a Washington state nursing home.

New cases rate hasnt spiked like you think relative to last week.
Logarithmic rate of total cases and deaths has been basically constant, meaning steady exponential growth.

The number one issue with this pandemic is the lack of testing. Reality is we do not know how many people have it. Seems like we might not ever know how many people have it.
They’re holding tests only for those with extreme symptoms (unless you’re a celebrity apparently). So those who have a higher risk of dying due to already severe symptoms are going to skew the numbers.
It very well could be in its infancy stages of infecting the population but considering China had this shite in October and no restrictive travel occurred until January, the virus could have already infected millions.

I just don't think our minds - with no real experience in seeing this in our lifetime - can imagine getting to the point where we're going from 125k cases to 250k to 500k to 1m cases in a month (and beyond).
Most of us in modernity (especially in America) are patterned to think a crisis will burn itself out and we'll be ok. Those things will happen here, but based on the math (by others not me), there is no reason to believe you couldn't get to a couple hundred thousand deaths before that occurs.

Not sure.. it looks like it lasts a long time.. just from Washington alone, which was the first to discover it in the US.. only one person has recovered so far according to Johns Hopkins Map ( LINK )
