fortunately the criminal courts don't decide based on popularity polls
for the record i don't care if he pleads down (he should) or goes to trial or whatever...he needs to be held accountable for beating up a private citizen in a drunken rage.

not holding people accountable when they break the law is what got us into the plague of hoodrat criminality in this state. Do the crime, do the time right?

Who the hell is Bobby and why do so many refer to him by first name? You all know him?

Bobby Couvillion who was beaten by Smith at the steakhouse. I'm sure some people know him here, but not all.

I know that, but they speak like they know him, like he is a figure in the community. I live around there and never heard of him.

Never heard of him before this horseshite...

The only thing I have against Jim Everett is that he made that idiot Jim Rome famous bc he kicked his arse on live TV.

Randy probably did the same for Bobby, unfortunately.

What better way for Randy Smith to learn the processes of the most critical parts of his job and experience the way his agency touches the citizens of Saint Tammy Parish, then to go through a full arrest, booking, investigation and prosecution experience directly himself?

In my opinion, this is standup work, tackling, no pun intended, this situation head on such as Randy Smith is, and be in our public servant will be better off for it.

I’m all in at this point, Team Randy.

I live in St Tammany. Smith's actions are not acceptable and his apology is not enough. As the leader of his department his actions are held to a greater level than his underlings. He should resign and deal with the legal and civil issues that he has brought upon himself. As far as the victim whether or not he is a POS will not matter. He will get a big payday from this. Being intoxicated is no excuse and actually makes it worse IMO. This is not some school yard brawl that can be ignored.

Exactly. Leaders have to set the example for everyone under them. It is a tremendous responsibility and you can't mess it up or you lose the respect and support of those under you. What he did was a serious lapse in judgement on his part.

I live here as well. General consensus is that he's finished, and it's only a matter of time before he either resigns or is removed from office.

Those who like him know his political career doesn't survive this; those who don't are about to have a field day.

This November, there is a sales tax initiative on the ballot to solve the local justice system's significant financial problems. There will be an inordinate amount of pressure on him to resign sooner than later.

and that is all the accountability that is required here…well that plus the massive civil judgment the good people of STP will be forced to pay. He doesn’t deserve jail time for this and anyone saying he does is just piling on. He got drunk, lost his composure and violated the civil rights and physical safety of a private citizen while holding the office of chief law enforcement officer. There should be no coming back from that and that’s enough.

Randy Smith does not give a single frick about the law when it suits his personal interests to violate that law. That person cannot be sheriff

The current one won because other presidents weren't being held to the standards he was.
