This may be long, so i apologize in advance. I dont want this to be some religion trashing thread or gay bashing thread. I just have something that is bothering me and wondering what other peoples opinions are, so here goes.

I live in south central mississippi. Small town, everyone knows everyone. I am a christian, and regularly attend my southern baptist church as i have for the past 32 years. There is this other Southern Baptist chuch in the same comminity. This all started off 2 yesrs ago. We had a church softball league (that we have had the past 40 years), a Womens and mens league. Well this particular church is the one who has the field so its always their rules. They think they are above everyone else. While there are some very good people in the church i respect and been friends with my whole life, there are others that are stuck in their own stubborn ways and its their way or no way.

So, back to the softball league. First of all for 4-5 years leading up to a couple years ago they said since it is their field, they make the rules. And only members of the church can play, no one else. Well several of the other teams made the argument that isnt very christian like. What if the only time these guys heard a prayer or Gods name was at that softball field 2 nights a week. That it should be used as an outreach program not as a function to shun people out because they are not members. Sorry to get off track from the title but trying to give a little background.

Well 2 years ago ended up being our final year of church league softball. They shut down their field and said no more, because some people in their church found out that THEIR VERY OWN girls softball team had a couple of lesbians on it. Basically they got embarrassed and shut the whole thing down.. stupid, but its their field.

Fast forward to last week when i pick up the local newspaper. There is a BIG write up from this church saying no gay/lesbians are allowed there, and they will be asked to leave if they come. And give several bible verses saying how God said it is wrong, etc etc.

While i do agree that it does say in the Bible it is wrong, and i do not agree with homosexuality. I have no right to deny someone from comming to my church. I would want to welcome them in and hope something I hear something that touches their heart and changes their mind. It disgust me more that a fellow church in my community is denying someone entry, than that person being a homosexual. Things like this are what gives "reigion" a bad name. Not every church is this way. Ours is not this way, and we both are southern baptist. I just cant comprehend how they think they are better than anyone else to deny them access to Gods word. You cant pick and choose what verses from the Bible you want to follow. There are people in that church who are adulters, who have lied, who have stolen. All sin is the same in Gods eyes.

Anyway, i told you it was long. What is your opininons? Especially people who attend church regularly.

You mean they don't immediately burst into flames (pun intended) when they walk through the door?

I went to HS with a guy who was as gay as he could be without leaping out of the closet in a cloud of glitter. Fast forward many years, and he's the music minister at First Baptist Church. Never married, no female relationships, ever. I guess it's a don't ask, don't tell kind of thing.

They have to be out of their damn minds to think that Jesus would turn away someone from church.

But most people like that are.

That would sicken me. My least favorite thing about some churches are how they are so judgmental. I have left a church and moved to a different one because of it.

The irony of judgmental Christians is amazing to me.

Jesus definitely didn't associate with gays. Only those on the straight and narrow: prostitutes, criminals, beggars, homeless, poor, diseased, etc.

completely understand, this particular church has always been very judgemental and have the idea they are better than everyone else. They are even starting their own school next year, as if the other 5 schools in a 10 mile radius are not good enough.

your church would welcome an openly gay couple in your church with open arms?

no judgment? snide remarks and off glances?

I doubt it

I think we should welcome everyone and try to help them become godly and change from their sinful ways. We have to try to love and help everyone. But.....gays shouldn't be allowed to marry, hold church positions, or become members of the church unless they turn from the sin.

Imo I'd be pretty pumped up if a gay person came to my church.

The way I see it, all sins are equal. I mess up and sin daily. It's not my place to "fix" them, God can handle that.

You sound like a SJW.

It's their church, they can do what they want. You have the right opinion, that everyone should be welcomed into your church. But you have no right to say what they can and can't do. Most likely their church will have diminishing attendance and eventually close as a result of their public decision

lol, no office for me.. but i just dont agree with people picking and choosing which bible verses to live by. If my church did anything like this I would let them know how i felt and never be back.
