This is the equivalent to me showing up to one of Tigerlee's Klan meetings telling them they can't hate black people. It's church they do not support homosexuality so to expect them to accept openly gay people is asinine.

I agree...That goes against the message church should be giving.

Several comments from a fellow Mississippi Baptist.
Being Gay or Lesbian is no worse than being a liar or to covet someone's (coon hound, house, bass boat, Ferrari, Learjet,).
Each time we sin is a sin. I know several Homosexuals (friends) who belong to the Church that I belong. Bothers me none at all. They are where they need to be - with the rest of us sinners, having been justified and now trying to become sanctified.
I have no right to judge anyone else. PERIOD. My condition and relation with my Lord is the one I need to be concerned with.
Some of the most un-Christian behavior I have ever witnessed has occurred at Church League ball games. There I go, judging folks again. See I told you I have problems.
My opinion is for every Gay person in my church, there are two or three adulterers and several hundred liars, cheats, swindlers, coveters, those who take the Lord's name in vain, Christians by name only, whatever. One or more of those groups includes me.
It is tough to live a Christian (forgiven) life. Pray for your Gay Christian brothers and sisters, and me too if you get a chance.
(Steps down from soapbox)

Hate the sin, love the sinner.

do they do the same thing for adulterers, those who have had pre-marital sex, those who have devorced, ect.? So no one in the church is free from sin?
If the adulterers/fornicators/divorcees are saying God made them that way and refuse to repent the sin, then yes. Gays are welcome in the church but they must admit their lifestyle is sinful and be willing to change that lifestyle.

can see if they forbid someone from a leadership role, but the basis of christian faith is that your sins are forgiving after accepting christ
After accepting Christ AND obeying Christ.

Im saying homosexuality is a sin....
What is being gay? Is that not the same as being a homosexual?

I find it kinda sad that an individual has to live out a lie his entire life due to a bunch of judgmental sinners.
How is it living out a lie? Maybe he is choosing not to engage in homosexual behavior because he knows it's a sin.
Right now, I don't know if anyone is exactly "born" that way. There is more proof of people being genetically predisposed to obesity than being gay. There just isn't proof, so I take the stance that it is most likely a fetish/choice related to one's environment in which they were raised. however, I don't know for sure. In any case, the Lord condemned it so it is a sin to engage. Everyone has different sins they struggle with.

While i do agree that it does say in the Bible it is wrong, and i do not agree with homosexuality. I have no right to deny someone from comming to my church. I would want to welcome them in and hope something I hear something that touches their heart and changes their mind.
That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works. If you think homosexuality is a choice you are frickin' dumb. Well, you're from Mississippi, so I guess that's a given.
Frickin' Baptists, dude. Say what you want about Catholics, but there is an openly gay couple who goes to my church and no one says shite about it. They also volunteer frequently and do charity work for the parish.

Being gay means having same-sex attraction. Whether that's a choice, genetic, whatever, how could it possibly be a sin?
Acting on the attraction is a different thing. Whether you call any of it a sin, you can agree that acting on an urge is a totally different thing than experiencing an urge.
The extremely difficult thing the Church tells people with same-sex attraction is that they should strive to live their lives without acting on their urges. That is really difficult, but it's not impossible. Impossible would be telling someone not to feel urges they believe they have no control over.

I think he's trying to say that having a sexual preference towards those of the same sex as you isn't the sin....actually having sexual relations with those of the same sex as you is.
And my pastor at my church once mentioned this couple years ago. Someone in the church got upset when they found out someone that had been attending recently was a lesbian. Got upset that the pastor greeted and talked with her after the service. His reply was something along the lines of "Would we expect someone to lose weight first before they ever set foot at a Weight Watcher's meeting? Make an alcoholic be sober for so long before they attended AA meetings? How can any Christian ever be upset that someone is seeking God? God tells me to love one another, and that is what I will continue to do."

What makes your point correct and the other opinion automatically wrong? Do you have proof it's not a choice or is it just your opinion?
You complained about the judgementalism of baptists while simultaneously making broad judgements about people you don't even know.
