He lectures us a bit more about safety and seat belts.

I did tell a TX State Trooper one time, “I will take the lecture or the ticket but not both.” He froze for a second, smiled and said “fair enough” and - to my surprise - wrote me a warning and sent me on my way. But only use this if the guy is already writing the ticket. Odds are great you won’t get the break I did.

Everyone who disagrees with me is a pussy! Waaah!

If none of my tax dollars went to subsidize the poor life decisions of others, I'd be right there with you. Unfortunately, that is not the America that we live in. It's easy to avoid this citation. Wear your damned seatbelt.

A wee bit dramatic. First, they enforce seatbelt laws. Next, we are living in Nazi Germany.

Apparently none of you safety-nerds ever rode in the back of a pickup when you were younger. I’m all about reasonable safety. But not at the expense of a little harmless fun every now and then.

I'm fine with seatbelt laws, since we the taxpayer frequently foot the bill for medical treatment of accidents.

This and the ones covered by insurance raise the cost of both auto and health insurance.

Why have we given the government the power to harass and fine us for behaviors that harm no one else in any way

Because white males have been conditioned to vote Republican and even though they claim to hate the government willing give up power to it annually in order to feel "safe."

No shite? Thanks for that revelation Sherlock. The point of my original post is that we shouldn’t have given the Government the power to harass and fine us for some of life’s simpler joys like this.

Sucks you got a ticket but he is 19 years old. Does he really need to stick his head out of the sunroof like a damn dog?

Damn...If you pussies are ok with the government micromanaging our lives like this then don’t be surprised when our freedoms are eroded away over time.

As long as the rest of us end up paying for your mistakes, I’m generally ok with you paying to avoid those mistakes.

I’m not a fan of speeding tickets for 2mph over but standing out the sunroof seems like a problem of your own creation.

$180 is probably a lot though

I’ve worked multiple wrecks where a driver of another vehicle was hurt or killed due to an ejected person flying into their vehicle. It can effect other people.

Seat belt and helmet laws are absurd. If someone want to live foolishly, it's none of anyone else's damn business.

If you support these silly laws, why not outlaw bacon, soft drinks, etc. Just Nazilike that people are so damned anxious to impose silly arse rules on others.

Use public roads, follow the rules.

Simple pleasure but disastrous if conditions are right. About the time I graduated there was a kid in the neighboring town that had his head out of a limo sunroof and was decapitated. He and a group of friends were celebrating either prom or graduation and the limo drove under a wire across the road that some utility workers didn't secure after some work. Freak accident but made a big enough impression on me to not take the risk.

This is the issue that has me conflicted.

I was passed (illegally) on the left by a motorbike on a two-lane road. The impact sent him into a ditch about 20-25 yards. He missed hitting a telephone pole by inches. The rider was not wearing a helmet and had he hit the pole he would have died instantly.

Had he died I would have been a mess, even though it wasn’t my fault. Why should I have to deal with that when it was his fault?

How are they harassing you for violating the law?

I get you’re trying to have fun, but to expect not to be punished for violating law is silly.

I remember when seat belt laws were first proposed. Many people were concerned about government intrusion and potential police harassment. So originally these laws were set up as only secondary offenses that you couldn’t be pulled over for. And there were often no fines associated. I was ok with all that back then.

But now it’s $180 (when they are being “lenient”) and they can harass the shite out of you if they want.

See how the government chips away at our liberty?
