Also pulling green Ivy League grads won't improve the schools. You need professionals with years of experience in good school districts, and competitive packages to attract them there. Low property taxes won't help that, nor having a governor that seems averse to paying for quality education.
It doesn't matter how experienced the teachers are, if the students and their parents do not value education, the school will not improve.

This is true but it's happening. This is exactly where I'm stuck. However if we leave it won't be to go to BF. I can promise you that.

FACT. Jesuit and Brother Martin have the lowest tuition of all the Catholic Boys Schools in the Nola area because of their donations from their loyal alumni . Better education than Rummel.
My brothers in law are CHS BR grads. I am amazed every year when I compare their president's report to Jesuit's. The donation split for Jesuit of alum giving vs current parent giving is around 70/30. CHS is about the opposite. It blows my mind why other schools don't pursue this more: alumni base grows exponentially whereas current parent base is static. Additionally, many parents say piss off to the HS's once their kid is finished since they just forked over tens of thousands.

quote:that is what rummel is losing. I went to St Christopher and there was around 60 kids in my grade and only 25 of them were boys, i think around 10 went to Rummel. Metairie Catholic schools are losing students to Holy Cross and Brother Martin opening up for elementary schools. Which means the kids rummel would usually get are now going to BRMHS or HC.
back in my day id say 80% of my class came from a catholic middle school in jefferson parish. st benilde & st christopher, st catherine, st elizabeth, st francis, st rita, st ann, st agnes, st matthew, st ed, st mary mag, st phillip,
Also i go to Jesuit and you don't need anything except solid grades to get in. No one in my family had gone to Jesuit except me, so you can cross the blue bloods thing off. Also Jesuit had its largest group of incoming 8th graders this year.

Jesuit and Brother Martin grads/alum are very loyal and proud of their schools. Also, many Jesuit grads are now doctors, attorneys, etc... who can obviously afford to make large donations/ contributions.

Franklin is a great school. You should at least check it out and talk to current parents of students. But it's not for everyone. Your child has to be self motivated and unafraid of competition.

I'm very aware of what Franklin is and isn't. We aren't intetested. Self motivation and competition aren't anywhere near the reasons why.

with Jesuit, BM, and HC all having relatively new or renovated physical plants, building those endowments should be the main goal for the coming decade.
To the earlier comments about college choices: with TOPs plus scholarships, LSU paid me to get an engineering degree, and I graduated debt free. My younger brother was valedictorian, had offers from Duke, Uva and the like, but picked LSU pre-med because it was free (McGinn hates us) and he could throw what our parents had saved towards med school instead. Tops has changed the game and unless you are aiming for a specialized field/program LSU with TOPS is the way to go for legal/engineering/med in this area.

Archbishop Rummel is doing major renovations now, they've replaced all or most of the windows and modular walls on the Severn Avenue side of the school just recently. And the process is still on-going.
BMHS has finished two of three phases of a capital campaign and the resultant construction in the last 15 years. It's a VERY nice campus. I've put one through, and my second is there, now.
From the earlier assertion that JHS is the cheapest and people should just go there, well, they can afford to be much more selective given their numbers. Secondly, that set of buildings can only accommodate so many boys.
Shaw is hurting, badly, because it's much easier for people to cross the river than it's ever been.
My boys chose BM because that's where they felt the most comfortable, and I wanted them to go to a school with a deeper history than ARHS which is our neighborhood (70001) school.

Things change. When I went to LSU and told my mom i was rooming with some kids from Jesuit, she snubbed her nose at it. Told me only metairie trash went to that school. I just had to remind her she graduated hs in the 70's and that we hadnt lived in louisiana for 15 years.

When I lived in NY I put my kids in Catholic school because that was not the case. I payed tuition and high rent/property tax.
There's a Jesuit HS in NYC that is one of the most selective and best secondary schools in the country, but is completely free to anyone who can get in (obviously has a huge endowment).
Do you know the school I'm talking about?

It's Regis High School in Manhattan. Super super exclusive but free to attend.
Small piece of trivia, it was the scene of the 2000 movie "Chasing Forrestor"

All the while St Pauls has to turn away more students than they let in...
And it's been like that for many years.
I remember Brother Ray being pretty outspoken about SPS enrollment not rising above 800. I believe it's around 870 this year, however.

Sounds like your mom did lots of drugs or didn't have the slightest idea what she was talking about. Likely both.
