Though he pledged to make the falling figures a priority, the numbers were even lower four years later. Rummel has 685 students this year, said Sarah McDonald, the Archdiocese of New Orleans' communications director.

It's sad as an alum, but I really do believe it has to do with the high tuition.

Metairie hasn't gone to shite but it is true that people don't want to live in the burbs anymore. It's much cooler to live in the city.

$8k/yr isnt' a high tuition for a catholic high school, unless the school isnt' a very good academic school.

We had over 1300 hundred students there when I was there in the 90s. There was like 300+ just in my freshman class if I remember correctly.

Damn, that is pitiful.

This article conveniently left out the fact that this years incoming 8th grade class is the largest since Hurricane Katrina.

It's sad as an alum,
I graduated from CHSBR, and I would not think about sending my kid to Rummel currently. Which is crazy, because when I graduated in 06 I felt Rummel was very good. But last year I went with a business associate who was a Rummel alum for a seminar, and we were both shocked at how the school "felt"

I'm an alum and I wouldn't send my kid there. Its not a good education IMO. I don't live in Metairie anyway.

You can't put a price tag on keeping your kid away from the Metry trash in public schools.

I'm 4th generation product of Catholic high schools. They provide a solid college prep education while still embodying the Catholic faith.

Tuition has very little to do with it considering Holy Cross, Jesuit and Brother Martin are busting at the seams.
