When I lived in NY I put my kids in Catholic school because that was not the case. I payed tuition and high rent/property tax.

You don't think that would increase teacher quality?

There is a cottage industry of putting Ivy league graduates into New Orleans schools all to little avail.

Trinity kids go everywhere.

I have 2 more years before we have make a descion. I'm starting to weigh options now. Although the choices are slim to none.

Yes they do. What is wrong with the big building at Nashville and Freret?

He'll go there next year and the year after. After that we will just have to see. Nothing's wrong....yet. Jesuit starts at 8th and that's an option.

You don't have to be a Blue Blood to go to Jesuit. I know guys from a wide array of backgrounds who went there...

I think he was referring to Jesuit Blue... As in legacies.... Jesuit Alumnus like sending their kids back to Jesuit... Unlike what's happening with Rummel alumnus.

Yea but more pertinent to this thread where are the other half going these days? Not Rummel apparently. I went to St. Francis Xavier in the 80s and the vast majority of the boys went to Rummel. Now are they going to Holy Cross and Brother Martin? I guess so. I bet a lot of potential Rummel kids are going to Haynes and Thomas Jefferson too, which did not exist not too long ago.

back in my day id say 80% of my class came from a catholic middle school in jefferson parish. st benilde & st christopher, st catherine, st elizabeth, st francis, st rita, st ann, st agnes, st matthew, st ed, st mary mag, st phillip,

I don't doubt that taxes are high here, or that there are bad school districts. As an example of what I am talking about, I look at most (but not all) of Westchester county, where property taxes are often 25k+ for an "average" 800k house. There you will find some of the best school districts in the region/nation.

Also pulling green Ivy League grads won't improve the schools. You need professionals with years of experience in good school districts, and competitive packages to attract them there. Low property taxes won't help that, nor having a governor that seems averse to paying for quality education.

I already corrected her. You don't have to rub it in with your subtle brag.

Franklin kids are most kind of weird from my experience. Weird isn't the right word though, let's go with socially awkward.

Obviously I didn't go there, so I won;t claim to label the entire student body past and present. But from my interactions with BF students, that is my assessment.

Before Katrina, damn near everyone I went to Lusher with went on to Franklin. It was basically a feeder school to Franklin. None of them were weird or awkward

I like most Franklin kids I know. The guys at least, most of the girls I knew were kind of crazy.

Lots of Lusher kids still go to Franklin. I keep waiting for Lusher HS to reach the level where they retain their best middle school students, but it's not happening yet.

Wow...I am a 1974 Rummel grad, so you know the school has gone through a ton of changes since then, but so has the area. I received a great education and it was easier for working class families to send boys there, but today, the tuition looks sky high and I wonder if you would get the same education and quality teachers even with all the $$.

FACT. Jesuit and Brother Martin have the lowest tuition of all the Catholic Boys Schools in the Nola area because of their donations from their loyal alumni . Better education than Rummel.
