What would work on here is the top voted comment starred under the OP (I've seen it in Threads before)
Disagree. Oftentimes people will reactively upvote the newer comments more and also the wittier ones with no real substance. You can drop a golden reply on page 5 and just get a few uv.

But do you really think tigerdroppings is any less of a monolith?
A few points here:
(1) this is a topic focused message board, mainly SEC football. You come here knowing that the standard SEC football fan leans towards the church going, pickup driving, traditional values sort so take everything here with that grain of salt. You wouldn't expect the same crowd at a website dedicated to cat lovers or modern art. But Reddit is a catch-all for any and all topics. It's not specific to any group or stereotype.
(2) even here and other places like it, you don't get banned or harassed for simply disagreeing with the echo chamber. That's one of the main points of message boards is for people to discuss, argue and debate different viewpoints.

Enjoy your first downvote in this thread
Because you disagree with his post, or just don’t like him?
If the former, why?
If the latter, you’re part of the problem.

This is why you always sort by controversial
Posted on 4/21/26 at 2:11 pm to Kinderman
That and you get kicked off for being downvoted.

Someone already blew OP's theory out by stating simply use the sort function.
Having to manually sort every sub, post, and comments because it automatically defaults to groupthink doesn’t really “blow out” my theory.

Correct. When up/down votes were first proposed here I spoke about this at great length. They have no value other than creating a tyranny of the majority and echo chambers.
The difference is here up votes and downvotes dont result in message amplification or suppression.
On Reddit if you get ratio'd your account basically no longer has the ability to post because you'll be buried.
Here they dont matter functionally at all.

Yea i don't know what it is. Deranged lunatics. I guess that people that actually post on there are just pathetic losers with no life.

Because it means nothing.
If it moved the needle, might matter

Exactly. Also Reddit applies forum rules differently, based on the viewpoint of the author. I was banned from r/Military for pointing out that they had dozens of posts celebrating the murder of Charlie Kirk and encouraging killing conservatives. Celebrating and encouraging violence was a direct violation of their posting guidelines… yet I got banned for pointing this out.

They consider themselves activists and their Reddit involvement part of their activism. And it’s gotta be from the top down because when I first joined this last time, just joining a few harmless subs, my feed was automatically loaded with all kinds of anti-ICE posts from subs I wasn’t even in.

I go to Reddit for porno and discussions about guns and trucks. There are some cool topics and discussions there but much of it is so hyperpartisan I don’t bother. I got banned for calling the new Wheel of Time show “woke garbage” which I didn’t think was even Controversial

It structurally buries dissent from common thought. Literally hides unfavorable minority opinions.
I don't know why I don't just delete my account.
You can get "downvoted" to shite here...but your post stays visible/up.

Do you have any idea as to whether you have more downvotes than yes? Would that bother you?

reddit looks like a 7 year old designed it and its 60% losers who were picked on in real life and the other 40% are bots.

Reddit's entire discussion model being based on upvotes/downvotes is so bizarre to me

The idea makes sense to let users determine what is good content and what is not. But it has unraveled into a popularity contest or a virtue test. I’d argue for Reddit’s business model it’s still the best system, just not the best thing for free speech
Most reddit posts seem to be devolve into the same handful of recycled comments and tired jokes; and the dweebs keep upvoting them. And since they're easy upvotes, people keep posting them in a never ending cycle or recycled trash.
It's like 350 and baw scaled up.
Where's the banana for scale, hur dur.
I'm going to steal your meme but here's an upvote first.

It depends on when the up/down vote system was implemented as it relates to 2016. I was likely WAY ahead in upvotes before 2016 and the demographic/mentality shifts that occurred thereafter.

Only women and figs care about up/down votes. I pretty much never look at mine.

It blows my mind when I remember that we used to be utterly mainstream posters on the PT back in the long long ago

I don't know if I find more perverse joy in people who couldn't define "liberal" without googling it calling me one OR watching more apt/intelligent people flip flop on core issues every 2-4 years.
