Someone already blew OP's theory out by stating simply use the sort function.
Upvote/downvote works fine in and of itself. It's a mechanism. A tool. Any tool in the hands of idiots can cause damage....but it's not the tools fault.

Their model is like all other social media. They want to hook you with whatever they think will keep you engaged. It does work but for the lowest common denominator type folks, which unfortunately is the vast majority of people on this planet.
This is why this website is so great. It is set up to allow for fair and meaningful conversations. What we had before social media.

Reddit is a fricking mess. I don’t even post that much or that provocatively, mostly just boring subs, and got banned recently, appealed and it was reversed but yet my account is still banned. I think they see my downvotes and really banned me for that.
Reddit’s model is so unreliable it depends on bots and volunteers to moderate it, but it’s too big to do properly.

The city and state subs are the worst about the conversations turning political for no clear reason. (Like for even less clear reasons than if somebody shows a pic of the White House.) Like there can be a thread on r/Florida that's just about how there's been no rain in Tampa for a while, and the first reply to the thread will be about how bad Donald Trump is and how we need to support transgender rights.
The subs other than city and state subs are usually a little better at staying apolitical than the city/state subs are. But even the threads on those subs can turn political.
It doesn't help that Reddit has an international audience, and Trump is unpopular internationally-and understandably so I might add. Trump promotes stuff like leaving NATO and NAFTA and imposing tariffs on everybody. You can argue that those actions are in the best interest of the US, but is it really that hard to understand why people in foreign countries would dislike those actions?

The design is meant to control discourse via bots to establish specific narratives for the intelligence community.

Correct. When up/down votes were first proposed here I spoke about this at great length. They have no value other than creating a tyranny of the majority and echo chambers.
Meh. Its a message board. Its not that serious

What would work on here is the top voted comment starred under the OP (I've seen it in Threads before)
And then the rest like it is

New accounts have to get karma or they can't even post in a majority of subs, while simultaneously look like you are not trying to farm karma by farming karma. Then they could shadow ban you with one of Reddit's 2 million auto banning features that scan for ip address, user traits and digital id of your computer in case you dare try to circumvent a banning. Paranoia on the level of 1984 all to further progressive ideology and tits.

I got downvoted into the shadowlands and then banned for starting the topic…

The top comments would just be people upvoting well timed gifs

It's sad when the perfect one liner gets buried on page 3
But when the perfect one liner is also the first comment...perfection

I think there are a lot more Asian posters than most people realize. Asians almost always value the collective more than the individual, and that heavily weights up and downvotes, as well as the comments.
The only two forums I look at every day are /MaliciousCompliance and /AITA. I see the Asian influence in the latter constantly, probably out of Filipinos, Indonesians, etc.

My home IP is banned on Reddit. Usually I can get around the IP ban by creating a new account on my cell phone and only posting on my phone for about the first week. Then, after the new account's been around for about a week, their automated system will stop actively looking at my IPs, and I can post on my computer again.
Then I'll be able to use the new account for something like a month or two months or three months. The Reddit system won't be actively looking for my IP at that point. But sooner or later, there will be some tattle tale user who reports one of my comments to the admins for not being sufficiently woke or something.
Once my comment gets reported, then the admins will actively look at my account, and see that my IP is from a previously banned IP. So they'll ban my account, and the whole process will start all over again.
Ironically, ban #1 I got on Reddit was for complaining about COVID measures, which I assume the admins don't even care about anymore, and all the succeeding bans are because I've come back so many times after that ban. However, I've gotten something like 20-25 bans at this point, and the admins probably don't even look back far enough to see what ban #1 was about.

Couple of other observations:
The TDS is so bad, you see trump mentioned in the most innocuous non-political discussions, like rocks or coworker stories, anything.
In some subs, the leftists are so extreme, basically Antifa types, defending violence and extremism because “being nice obviously isn’t working”, the NewOrleans sub is a perfect example.
If you say one word on anything trans or lgbtqjdk that isn’t total support, you’re gone. It’s labeled Hate and harassment.
