A Long Heat Streak Show No Signs Of leaving...
I've been amused watching local weathercasters trying to come up with new graphics that highlight our current heat streak that has lasted over a week. Technically, we're in the climatologically hottest part of summer, so we're supposed to be hot. But c'mon, 100+ for 3 days in a row that could extend for another 3-4 days? That is "extreme" anyway you look at it. Here's some examples beginning with graphics from the National Weather Service office.

I can’t imagine how hot it’s going to be in college football stadiums in the south in early September for day games

The good news is that you don't have to travel very far, in the grand scheme of things, to find below normal temperatures this Summer. Not far at all, really.

A local meteorologist said we have now tied the longest streak of 100+ degree days, which was set back in the 1930’s. The 10 day forecast calls for another week of 100+ degrees days. Yeah, it’s always hot in Louisiana this time of year but to say what we’ve experienced for the past two weeks is normal is dumb.

Its just that time of year, baws

In 2011, Shreveport had 15 consecutive days of 100+ temps, Monroe had 14. Shreve had 63 days total of 100+ temps that summer, Monroe 49

How many threads about it being hot do we need this summer.

I mean we get daily Nola bash-a-thon threads, why shouldn’t we get daily weather threads?

Previous record for consecutive 100s in 1921 was 8 days

We may double that
Lots of folks point to 1921 as an example of "it's been this hot before". And while that was a very hot year for BR, the hottest on record in fact with an average temp of 70.7 (2nd/3rd is 2016/2020 at 70.2), 2023 so far is running 1.3 degrees hotter than 1921 through the same point of that year (73 vs 71.7).

Maybe the rest of the year will be cooler to bring the average down, but so far there's no question 2023 is on pace to beat 1921 as the hottest year in BR by quite a lot. 1921 had 0 nighttime lows at or above 80 degrees. 2023 has had 13 already.

All those facts aside the fact that it was 102 years prior should raise some eyebrows

They've only been keeping daily temperature records since the 1880's.

But keep that fear porn going.

Shut up Boat

If you look at the heat index forecast everyday this summer,as I have, you will note it has been consistently hotter in the SE Texas south central Louisiana areas.

Stop all this central Texas, Austin, dfw circle jerk

Go to Shreveport if you want to cool off. It's on the fringe of the dreaded heat dome

August is always the hottest month. If you’re a man from the South, you would know this and be a man about it.

The last two years in SW La., August was on average 2° cooler than July.

What sort of changes have people really instilled?

For us, I close the curtains on the front of my house around 1pm (before the sun moves to that part of the house), I run my sprinkler less now (it's not worth running them as much as I would need to keep it green), I only walk 9 holes instead of 18 in the afternoon, I keep the garage closed during the day now (not even sure if that does anything but it makes me feel better and we sleep with the door cracked open in our bedroom with fans on outside of the room to help the air flow until our AC can catch up and get it back near 70 degrees

How is pointing out how abnormally hot it has been fear porn?

No one in here is channeling their inner Greta. Just pointing out that it’s the hottest summer in over 100 years and that it sucks.

But some people see record heat think they must deny it at all cost because even acknowledging, it makes them a tree hugger

I hate politics. Why is climate such a political issue? Serious Q?

If the earth is getting hotter every year and the water temps are breaking all time records, why is that a left or right thing? Would that concern everyone or at least something to double click on?
