My first daughter went down easy and slept through the night. My second daughter woke as soon as I laid her down. She was cruising at 4 months and walking at 8, so she would just stand and walk the edge of the crib crying and gnawing on the rail like a zombie. She ended up spending most nights on me in the recliner in her room.

Thanks. It wasn’t easy having two little ones and then having twins. But, the experience saved us. Had the twins been first, I don’t know if we would have made it.

When I put mine down in the crib I’d stay and keep rubbing their chest letting them know I was still there. Do that until they fall back asleep. And then when you’re 99.99% sure they are out and it’s age to stop keep rubbing for another 30 seconds

Are you using a raised crib? That helps when their too small to actually climb up anything, not such a long way down when you put them to bed.

It's been a long time for me, but I remember it being especially awkward being 5ft tall and trying to stoop but up and over the rail *just right* to have maximum body contact right up until the kid touches the mattress.
I remember thinking (when I was trying to move my sleeping kids from car seat to crib/bed) that I was on a bomb disposal team.
One of mine had colic from around four to six months. Riding in the car seat was the only relief. I’d buckle that one up and drive out somewhere rural and turn around and get home to attempt the transfer.
More often than not it failed.

Put them down and leave them be. Barring something wrong with them (i.e. sickness, hunger, diaper) they should tire themselves out and fall asleep. And I’m not saying it’s easy to sit there while your infant screams bloody murder. But they’ll eventually figure out how to fall asleep. And if you cater too much to doing it a certain way that requires extra shite (like rocking or driving around until they are asleep), they will get accustomed to needing that ans only be able to fall asleep in that way.
Again, it’s tough to do. But it works (usually). Thankfully we didn’t have too many issues when mine (now 6) was an infant.

Hold the baby as close to your chest as you can the whole way down over the railing.
