So, the wife has a 2018 SQ5. Other than replacing brake pads, first 5 years of ownership was hassle free.

However, about a month ago, vehicle had an intermittent slow oil leak. Brought in the vehicle to dealer service department, vehicle has to have oil filter housing replaced. Ok, sucks but part of vehicle maintenance.

One week later, the engine coolant light comes on with engine temperature running a little hot. Brought in vehicle to dealer service department, vehicle has to have water pump replaced along with a whole lot of other parts.

So, two weeks, total of $4-5k in repairs.

One week later, engine starts making a loud clicking noise. Brought in vehicle to dealer service department again, vehicle has a rod knock and engine has to be replaced. Cost estimate is $30k.

With current KBB value of $20k, I’m not having repair done. Might sell for parts.

Long story/short, 6 year old Audi with 60k miles is dead. Audi sucks.

I'm not trying to dance on your grave, but when it's time to buy a vehicle how does the statement "I think I'll go with an Audi" come to mind?

Wife has a ‘21 Q5 that sucks. Been having tire and TPMS issues since she bought it. Interior creaks and squeaks and shitty paint on top of that.

Stop going to the dealer for out of warranty repairs. You could probably get a used engine installed, but given the vehicle history of late I can see why you'd want to ditch it.

I guess I got lucky. I have a 2014 SQ5 and it’s been damned near perfect. I had to get the brakes done at 80k miles and it’s now at 135k and still on the second set of brakes. I’ve had no major issues at all.

This is a lesson for everyone else... Don't go to the Audi/VW/BMW/Mercedes dealership outside of warranty. Go to an independent shop that specializes in the brand if you can't do your own work.

If you do find one of those Indy shops you can probably get a rebuild done for $4-5k

Small chance here, if you got all your service done at dealerships contact audi directly. VAG has been known to do goodwill warranty work or discounted work.

Curious what the dealership did in their $4-$5k of repairs, could they have possibly fricked something up?

My last college car in the 80's was an Audi 5000.
It was a few years old when I got it and couldn't believe what a great deal we got on it. Six months later we found out why.
It was one thing after another until the transmission dropped in pieces onto I 85 south like the space shuttle Columbia on re-entry.
I sold it to a guy at the Chevron station for 700 bucks.

Never will buy another Audi.

That’s what I’m wondering. And, the basis for my fight with dealer.

Seems HIGHLY improbable that 3 separate, major maintenance issues over a 4-week span are independent of each other.

And, why do you think European cars are so cheap when used? They are crap.

A buddy of mine owned BMW's.. I guess he had about three different ones till finally got pissed with every time he took it in it $2000...

So what did he move onto? AUDI.. Haven't heard any bitching but he might be keeping quiet so he doesn't look like an idiot..

My brother in law swears by them. They’re pretty popular in SE Florida. I’ve had two trucks (toyota) in the time he’s had 5

How low on oil did y’all run it with the leak to ultimately cause the rod knock?

Find a Toyota or Nissan truck from about 10 years ago and go from there.

Yeah, but for 6 years you got to fellate yourself thinking about how much your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and other “poors” on the road envy your car and how successful you are in life!

Jokes aside. German car ownership is awesome if 1) you have a second reliable car, and 2) you have the means to afford maintenance. They’re beautiful and thrilling machines, but holy shite does ownership suck from a responsibility perspective. Either lease or never own out of warranty.
