I can get behind this.

quote:

A law passed by the Portuguese parliament makes it illegal for employers to contact employees after work hours, a step the country has made to promote healthier work-life balance amid a surge of home workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

quote:

In legislation approved Friday, employers could face financial penalties for contacting employees outside of work hours, including increased gas and electricity bills, according to Portugal's Socialist Party government.

The law is part of an effort to appeal to remote workers coming to Portugal.

Well if work is calling you after hours you are probably getting fricked anyways.

Any phone call or email sent after hours should be an hour minimum OT for the recipient.

If it doesn't required me to drive to the office, then it's not important enough.

When I am on vacation you might as well consider me dead for that period of time.

Salaried employees of facilities that run 24/7 are all for this.

No way American corporations can live with this.

Are we really supporting laws that prevent people from making phone calls? Slippery slope here. Employees can either choose to not work for those employers, not answer the phone or answer it and handle their business. That's the beauty of freedom.

I find women see that as a badge of honor/loyalty more than men. Can't tell you how many times I've had to draw a picture for my wife to understand the many ways her employer fricks their office over.

Get a new job and enjoy your liberties. Or you rather Government intervening in every little aspect of life?

Oh boy, people would lose their minds in the US if bosses couldn’t say shite to an employee till the next day.

Lots of pissed off administrative folks

Did they also pass a law for whistleblower protection, because it won’t be too hard to figure out who was called on the day of the complaint. Either don’t answer the phone and get fired, or answer, file the complaint, and get fired once the company is fined

I mean how does this work for international companies that have workers all over? Would my company get in trouble if I as a US based employee contacted a coworker in Portugal for something at noon my time?

I work for a large multinational
company that is headquartered in Paris. The employees in Europe have 8 weeks of vacation per year and their VPNs shut down at exactly 8 hrs. You can’t send an email after 8 hrs of work.
It’s always a point of tension for American employees.
