Ok man. You can sit by your phone on your off hours begging for those 4 more hours. I’ll be out enjoying life

This amazing invention came pretty widespread in the 90's, they call it a cell phone.

No on sits by the phone, Jethro.

that's the crux of the issue. "back in the day" you couldn't take a call if you weren't at home or the office. you had to be on a computer to get email. now it's essentially inescapable due to smart phones.

1) Leave at home
2) Don't answer calls you don't want.

But naw, lets just ban stuff.

Any phone call or email sent after hours should be an hour minimum OT for the recipient.

What happens if you’re a salaried employee (so no OT) and are given a stipend to have your phone on 24/7?

My boss can't even reach me during business hours. It wouldn't even cross their mind to try after hours.

Same here.

I consistently get phone calls between 6am and 7pm. I average about 650-800 calls a month. That's not including the 80 emails and another 100 job related text a day.

Freaking subcontractors man. Might as well do the shite myself.

When you ban innocuous things, you don't create "More liberty."

Freedom is the ability to negotiate with your employer without the government putting a hand on the scale.

Bugging employees during their time off isn't innocuous. It's inconsiderate and absurd.

Its absolutely necessary where I work. Its a 24/7 operation.

But, we have an agreement we text, and answer when convenient. Sometimes I need information that's pretty important.

Oh I get that it is in some situations....in mine it isn't, but the company has tried to pull me into it. It's a 24/7 residential facility, but I supervise the outpatient Autism center attached to it. What's funny is the front office is a normal 9-5 operation, but they are in a perpetual mode of showing off how much they work....I think to impress the CEO who works insane hours. It's sad and funny and their shocked when I don't work the day after Thanksgiving or fricking Christmas eve and are always trying to e-mail call me after hours..... can't help but just laugh

I've been in that situation before. But employees should be compensated for time outside of work at premium rates.

Hence the solutions to "banning" I posted twice before.

I'll never support any law based on my personal dislike that causes some dude who could use the money, a chance to get called back to work.

I wonder what their “office hours” are. If the pandemic has proven anything it’s proven 9-5 in-person office is and was the biggest scam hours of all time. Literally taking entire lifetimes from people. Corporate slaves.

I guess what I'm talking about is when someone calls you to ask a bunch of dumb questions they could have asked during working hours or things that could wait until the next day. I'm not talking about someone that's literally going back to work to pick up more hours.
