Stop blowing the budget on SWAT gear and APCs and raise the pay to a level that attracts non morons.

If you keep getting mostly morons, keep cutting all the shite you didn't have before 9/11 and upping the pay. Eventually you will get non-morons interested in being good cops.

Hell you could probably pay for a lot of the raises with the money freed up from reduced litigation costs that the morons produce.

I'm not against it. I know it's a weird comparison but I view it like I do teachers.

If we value having really wise people with good judgment in these areas of public life, we're going to have to greatly up the pay and squeeze out many of the people who are there now. Society will have to invest in it. And those leading the charge will have the unenviable task of convincing the public that a bureaucracy that can't accomplish...anything, can undertake this massive paradigm shift efficiently/wisely.

And you're still going to have major stigma issues and I think you've still got a problem of how to rightly gauge maturity/judgment. You need brave, sober minded and intelligent people. Half of them won't be interested off the bat. More won't be interested because of the lifestyle (bankers hours are more conducive to family, etc.). I'm just not sure there are enough people who fit the mold who can be compelled to take the jobs.

Get out of here with this crap. Don't get into a line of work that can put you in said situations if you're not going to be trained well enough & mentally capable of operating under duress. A little girl is now dead because a kid in tac gear was approaching them, unarmed & under command to do so.

After watching the video you sound like even more of a dumbass. You clearly see a child walking slowly to officers, crouching down, and then once commanded to come to officers crouching up and begin walking to them before getting absolutely lit up.

It's funny, the 15yr girl could keep her head and follow police commands all while bullets were flying and things were "in the shitter," but we're supposed to excuse the officer/officers who couldn't properly ID their target or keep their damn fingers off their triggers? GTFO.

This is the craziest assed thing I’ve read in here in quite a while.

This isn’t your junior varsity basketball team where everyone gets to play. You give someone a gun and make them responsible for life or death decisions then they better damn well be able to bear the responsibility for those actions. If they can’t/won’t do that then they aren’t qualified for the job.

It's laughable when people say police need better training.

You can't train the untrainable or the corrupt.

Police stations are severely understaffed and here's the kicker, most sane people DON'T want that job. For the past 10 years, no one has wanted that job.

You're in the inner city and a police officer has to confront a meth addict, just the dread of society with nothing to lose and he reaches for your gun and you have to shoot him. No one is going to help you, everyone is going to stand around criticizing you while Joy Behar doxes you live on the view.
