Relax
It was a tongue in cheek statement about humanity's inability to practice self denial both individually (obesity) and collectively (massive national debt).
It was not meant to be taken seriously.

All of this is correct.
Sugar has the same addictive properties as cocaine confirmed by MRIs. Another issue is that restaurants are not being honest about what's in their food. Take a grilled chicken breast. It may say 100% chicken, but that's not entirely true. Subway in particular adds soy proteins to its chicken to cut costs. So that oven roasted chicken breast is actually about 50-60% chicken, and the rest is added soy protein.
In the 70s when the food pyramid was introduced, it emphasized limiting fats and increasing carbs. The problem is that when you remove the fats from whole foods to make it fat free, they taste like garbage. So what did food companies do? They added sugar to make it taste better and increase sales. They're now doing it to just about every processed food. And there are 100s of FDA approved names for sugar that don't sound like sugar. As if that wasn't bad enough, companies add multiple types of sugars with those weird names so they appear further down the ingredient panel and people (if they even look at the ingredients) are far less likely to recognize it.
It's a legitimate sham. Unless you're eating whole foods that don't come with a nutrition label (whole meats and fruits, veggies) you're definitely eating things you don't realize and you're being duped by the food industry. And it's all legal according to the FDA.

Fat people need love and not condemnation. We need to nurture them back to healthy weight with encouragement and solutions.

frick this bleeding heart ideology. They do need encouragement but people do not need to be handled with kid gloves. You see a fat person at the gym? Damn right encourage them. Support them. Help them.
You see a fat lazy POS in a rascal? Do not help

The Govt needs to label it a health crisis and do something.
Make a national tracking system of people’s purchases based on the size of their family. Make it law that you can only eat a certain amount of “bad” foods per week and once you hit that amount then purchases will be declined. Outlaw processed foods. Restaurants will have to accept payment before serving food for this to work.
Time for Congress to act.

How about allow health insurance and health care providers to charge more for obesity like they do for tobacco users?
We don’t need more government intrusion, just allow people to feel the consequences of their own decisions.

Driving around today, just look at the line of cars at places like McDonald's and chic fi la. And it's not even noon.

My phone autocorrected “fay” to gay instead of fat. Man that was a serious screw up on my part

Watch an Arkansas home baseball game when you get the chance. It’s unbelievable what’s in the stands.

So going by that figure, even California has 25% of the population obese. T
With Louisiana's population so low, that would mean there are more fatties in Cali than here.

At what age is it acceptable that I can say frick it and eat a whole chocolate cake?
Prob late teens to early twenties if you already had a good metabolism. But keep doing that and you'll gain 30-40lbs over those 4 years of college.

I’m also amazed at the amount of not just overweight but flat out obese poor people. If you’re poor, shouldn’t affording food be a struggle?
That's because true poverty doesn't exist in this country and hasn't for quite some time.
Spend some time in Bangladesh, India, rural China, or a good chunk of Africa. That's actual poverty.
ETA: And not a fat person to be found of any age.

s much worse in the south. People down here are truly disgusting. All races and creeds have one thing in common down here, obesity.
We also drink more in the south, unless those stats have changed. More heavy drinking in the south, more drug use in the middle of country.
Your body will burn the alcohol before anything else.
