We also drink more in the south, unless those stats have changed.
Is this a recent development? Otherwise it's a moot point. I'm pretty sure the South has been downing the hooch for centuries, yet the obesity epidemic is only a thing of the past 40 years or so.

In other, word the average soldier in WW2 weighed about 10 lbs less than the average American adult woman today, and the average WWI soldier weighed nearly 20 lbs less.
I was talking about this the other day. Go to old war museums and the uniforms were tiny. Especially WWI.

Ya, but the average male height was less back then too. That has to be accounted for.

I'm thinking more with beer and cocktails. Straight liquor has no carbs.
Plus prohibition ended in the 30s. Couple that with the rise of fast food around that exact same time. That wasn't that long ago.

Err...might want to check again on that one.

Prohibition didn't exist that long. There were few fatties before and after prohibition.

Fast food/processed food didn't start to become a thing until the 1950s. And things didn't really start to take off until the FDA started pushing low fat diets in the 70s. Then, as another poster pointed out, processed foods dropped the fat and loaded down with the sugar. You can plot these time points and will mirror the explosion in obesity almost perfectly.

Why does height have to be accounted for? What's the diff in being obese at 5'8 or at 5'10?

I saw a woman in Walmart eating a box of cookies as she was grocery shopping. She was also in one of those wheelchair carts.
I lost a lot of faith in humanity at that moment.
I know deep down a lot had to do with her upbringing but damn. Have some pride and self love?

Because the weight needed to be counted as overweight/obese is different between 5'8" and 5'10"? Increased bone and muscle mass is a thing.

Clear liquor over 80 proof doesn't have any carbs but has plenty of calories.

I'm just pointing out people were smaller. I'm not talking about weight due to muscle or bone density.
The average height of males increasing has nothing to do with people being fat.
And I'm not talking about a damn chart that says your overweight.

I know this. I typed it out too fast.
I was just giving a suggestion on why the south has more fatties, I didn't do any sort of experiment. And it's not even that big of a difference.

Actually in the South, our per capita alcohol consumption is low. Northern and Midwestern states and Alaska have us beat.

People that are bitching at obese people are overweight as well

We talked about it on the walk home. The discussion was sparked by how many of the fat humans actually drove less than 1 mile to the neighborhood park area just to stuff wine and snacks down their fat faces
This is evident in the amount of Waiter drivers I see walk in and out of restaurants I am picking up to-go food. I mean, are you too friggin lazy to get in your car and drive to pick your food.

My loosely referenced stat re MS in 70s v CO/CA now was actually based on BMI which accounts for that. BMI isn't a great metric for much more than a directional indicator for populations. But that's exactly what we're talking about here.
