I didn’t really want to go to Disney. But you know what’s more important than my wants? My family. So you know what I did? I went and made the best of it. I actually ended up enjoying the trip. It’s crazy that some people just choose to be miserable.

Okay. You have two choices in that scenario: 1. Stick to your guns and say no or 2. Go and put on a smile for your wife and kids so they have a good time.
Why would you willingly spend that kind of money to be a complete a-hole and make the trip miserable for everyone else?

I still find it very unlikely that you take a kid under 10 to Disney and they'd have zero ineterst. But maybe your kid falls in the unlikely category.

I always wonder this but there are Plenty of Henry Jones's at Disney. They are pissed off the whole time and make sure their whole family knows it.

It's definitely not for everyone. Plenty of people raise their kids with zero Disney in their life. Others make it their whole identity, which is weird. Then there's people like me who are in the middle. I enjoy it but not because the rides are awesome or I like seeing college girls dressed as a princess. I enjoy how much my son is into it. I've taken him all over the country, out of the country, etc. He's 7 and talks about his Disney trips the most. He always asks when we're going back. I follow a few Imagineers on socials that he likes because they talk a lot about what goes in to all the new projects. He's really into ride development, animatronics, etc.
My wife and I don't push Disney on him. He's just into it.

Fast forward 8 years and 3 kids later we took a family trip there in mid-November right before Thanksgiving break. Our kids at the time were 13, 7, 5, and 3. It was awesome. Cost us about $12k, but it was worth it to us. Stayed at Art of Animation.
Ever since then, our kids, especially our youngest girl who is about to be 5, talks about going back to Disney again nonstop. We’re going for their fall break in October. It will probably be $12-14k this time taking into account inflation. Do the lightening lanes, sit down meals, and go in with the mindset you are going to be spending $$$.
We’ve taken them to Tennessee a couple times and North Carolina, which were all awesome trips, but Disney has its place as an equally enjoyable trip for the family if you do it right with the lightening passes and go during anytime but the summer.

Holy shite...you must be staying in one of the family suites? Have you ever considered getting two connecting rooms instead of a suite; it's got to be cheaper and quite likely at a nicer resort.

Renting DVC points would be something to look in to also.

He really needs to look at my post on page 2 and look into the DVC rentals next time. It would definitely save him some money on accommodations and he’d be at a nicer property.

Renting points is great; a family of 6, a two bedroom would be pricey but would offer a full kitchen so thats another way to save money.

My first and only trip to WDW was at 11/12, and I sadly had grown out of the Disney phase, so my memories of it aren't anything overly fond.
Definitely should have gone a few years earlier, but they wanted my younger brother to be old enough to remember, and they were clear we were only going once.

Yea, family suite for us. It’s cheaper than 2 connecting rooms. My wife looked into DVC points, but it wasn’t beneficial to us for whatever reason. I may have to go back and look into it again.
That $12k was 5 full days in the park with lightening lanes and a meal plan with sit-down service. We had Walmart delivery when we arrived to have breakfast foods/snacks/drinks in our room for the week. Used the AoA cafeteria for late night dinners some nights after we left the parks.

It's your responsibility to lead your family, not get pushed around by them.
My 5 and 7 year old loved Paris and Barca, and still talk about it 7 years later. I've not heard the $9k Disney trip brought up since the week after we got back years ago.
ETA: Disney is the only subject on this board that can go from OP to 19 pages long within 24 hours.

What a bitch way to go through life. "My wife made me do this so I'm going to be a complete bitch." Grow up, man. Jesus Christ.

Renting a property right offsite will save a ton of money and gives great opportunity to decompress.

Making a sacrifice for my family is far from being pushed around by them.
You’re a fricking idiot if you think my 4 year old would enjoy Paris more than Disney, there’s no other way to put that.

Why lie? There's literally no chance this is true, especially if they still talk about the other trip. That math ain't mathin

In addition to renting DVC points you could could also look into the Swan and Dolphin. It's a Marriott hotel on Disney property in the Boardwalk area between EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. While not owned by Disney you get most of the perks the deluxe resorts get (I don't think you can use the dining plan but that's not really a good purchase anyway) and most of the time it's a good bit cheaper than Disney hotels.
