It is strictly merit based. 32% are economically at the bottom and get free lunch there. 11% eat lunch at a reduced rate.

Why am I supposed to care about this? Maybe the other black applicants didn’t meet the standards to earn a spot.

Whoever scores the highest 895 scores on the entrance exam gets the 895 spots in the freshman class. Number 896 gets into the next best school.

How many students got in because their parents paid people to change test scores?

Quote from someone who attended Stuy....
"They are doing better, only 5 black students were admitted my year. One one graduated."

You might as well have posted the entire article. As I stated. You only left out the two paragraphs that I posted which I think was pretty relevant to the article

Still that ratio is pretty much an eye opener don't you think?
There is an Asian joke somewhere in there.

The problem for NYC politicians here is there is no easy target to blame. Hard to demonize low to middle income Asians whose kids work their asses off and parents sacrifice, so they can ace the entrance test.

Seems like if you can't pass the test to get in, then that is fricking on you.

The push to get rid of the test, which requires approval from the State Legislature, appears all but dead.
Wow. Legit common sense.

de Blasio's son didn't make it into Stuy so maybe that is some of his motivation.

Transfers and such. Getting in is one thing, passing is another.
Supposedly the one black guy who passed got an exception to get into MIT.

I was in A stream in 7th and 8th grade in NJ.
One black girl in 7th.
No Puerto Ricans.
D stream was half black and Puerto Rican.
In 9th one black guy in mechanical drawing.
None in Latin.
Lots in PE.
The blacks and Puerto Ricans in 9th were utterly poor.

My problem is what type of work is being done with looking into why so many black students are unable to meet the standards for this school.
If 74% of students are asain, then the racism angle doesn't fly. Why is it that Asian students are excelling at rates much higher than black, white, and hispanic students. Why are predominantly black and hispanic schools failing at raising up students who are able to compete with these asain students.
