Louisiana’s low electricity rates are exactly what attracted the data centers — and it will raise electricity rates in Louisiana.
For reference, Boeing factory in Washington is the largest manufacturing plant in the US. It uses roughly 15-43 Megawatts. The Meta data center in Richland Parish will use up to 5Gigawatts! Entergy is planning 5.2 GW in additional gas generation.
In Tahoe, residents are losing their utility provider due to the company giving preference to data center over residents. “ Nearly 50,000 Lake Tahoe residents have to find a new power source after their energy source looks to redirect lines to data centers”

I’m not anti-AI — I used AI to help write this post. However, Nobody wants these data centers in their backyard. They use insane amounts of power and raise energy rates. Entergy makes a boatload of money but there is local air pollution from massive amounts of needed power generation from gas and in 10 years when Elon builds data centers in space, these terrestrial centers will be completely obsolete leaving Louisiana with the blight.
Entergy pledges meta is going to pay for its full cost of service. Guess we will see…

And? So a sh*thole will become a toxic sh*thole because of these data centers and cc. Good thing I don’t.

I think you're the gullible one here. Why do you think it's Chinese propaganda? Because someone who makes a living based on clicks told you so.

quote:Really? Hard to believe. What are they going to waste all of that excess on? Are they going to cut taxes in the parish for the residents?
West Feliciana is going to see almost $90 million per year for the Meta DC under construction. That more than doubles their current $41 million budget

They actually had a HB for that very thing. They want to do a type of thing. My understanding is they can’t tell people they don’t have to pay, but they can do a rebate voucher type system

Because I know. Social media told you it was the end of times. I’m in the industry. I’m going to retire on these things. They are coming whether you like it or not. They are bending over backwards to appease panicans, reduce impacts and leave the place better than it was. All this sky is falling fear porn is beneath most of yall on here.

Big companies taking advantage of poor people... Slowly passing on the cost to said people. Story as old as time.
Louisiana will continue to be at the bottom
Louisiana will continue to be at the bottom

Will these things be thought of as the ancient Library of Alexandria ?

Good thing there's no big companies in Texas keeping all of us down. It's dumb voters like you that keep Louisiana doing Louisiana things. Mississippi education laughs at Louisiana.

This is just near Boyce on the West side of 49. It was a beautiful tract of very good farm land that was family owned. Very sad to see it go.
Oh for fricks sake Baw. How many jobs was that old farm creating?

I don't get all the anger over data centers with how new ones are rolling out power plants as they build.

I just have to laugh at the hypocrisy that for decades politicians fell all over themselves about the environment and wildlife and clean water and global warming ect. Ect. But hundreds of thousands of acres are being developed along with power generation not to mention unknown impacts on ground water and everyone just kinda shrugs it off.
And all may be for naught if we keep developing chip tech at a breakneck pace.

Why? are there legitimate concerns about their water, power use? yes but all the hyperbole around them is some ccp propaganda that you are falling for
For me it’s more what will be the economic benefits long term… we are subsidizing their existence in the state tax wise. Will there be true regional benefits economically? We shall see.
On the lighter side, I crack up because it’s a remote worker world plus it’s to boost AI so local Human Resources long term may not be an impressive stat

No resident there should ever pay taxes again, if true. Their health and comfort have been stolen.
