I’m assuming you mean that once these companies sold out to PE that there is pressure to sell unnecessary plumbing repairs?
I was using a locally owned plumbing group recently (small operation of 8 trucks). When I asked about who owned it and they guy said that they still had the original owner so that I wouldn’t “have salesmen coming in your house”. I didn’t ask for him to elaborate.

Yeah, I’m sure the AI money will be flowing in a place like Louisiana

My high school freshman asked me the other day what he should be when he grew up. I said "Three letters to remember: M.E.P. Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing. Learn one, two, or even all of them..."

My thoughts exactly. None of these fat lazy fricks work in the trades but they all act like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I am actively trying to get out of plumbing because it has destroyed my body and now all the companies want you to be used car salesman. These threads get so old
I was fortunate enough to end up with a solid degree but started in the oilfield as a field hand. For 8 years, I had some long days rigging up equipment on offshore and land rigs, sweating my arse off. Eventually working toward the office role, and the field experience made me so much better at my office job, I understand the field side of things. So, I see both sides of it. Those guys working their arse off daily are irreplaceable.
I don't want people to think that trades are a bad gig. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to provide.

It's interesting that the CEO of a tech company (world's most valuable company, by a lot), is saying get a trade. No doubt, he needs tradesmen to build data centers so that may be his angle here.
This plus he knows AI will replace a lot of office cubicle type jobs

Well, the "AI is gonna take over everthing" threads are about as common as these threads. I am just guessing that AI has to be the answer for everything.

I think he's just pointing out the obvious. Tradesmen are valuable.

Starting pay of trades is comparable to starting pay of college graduates. 30 years later, that pay hasn't changed much, and you'll need knee replacement and back surgery.
thats only if you arent good at what you do or arent capable of moving up. the same person in an office environment becomes expendable much faster also.

Are you dissuading him from going to college?

But Jensen Huang himself went to college for engineering and is now CEO of one of the largest companies on earth making gobs of money.
I'm starting to question that maybe all of these tech CEOs are just trying to promote how powerful their AI products are.

When he got out of the military and said he didn't want to go to college, I guided my middle son into operations. Boring life sitting there watching screens, but it pays him well and isn't hard on the body. He has the sweetest gig at a propane facility in the midwest.
Everybody always thinks their kid is cut out for college. That is just not true.

There is no doubt he believes AI will be extremely disruptive and change the workforce fundamentally.
So, I think his statements on this topic are aimed to help his position of needing tradesmen for chips and data centers.
But also, I think it is a bit of a warning.

Absolutely man! The military is great way to gain perspective and figure out where you want to go with your next step. I won't stop my kids from choosing military if they aren't sure what they wanna do yet.

Premise, OT. Keep the context. This is his point.

Military gets shite on a lot because some folks go in without a plan or path in mind and that will work for some people but not everyone.

Does it not bother any of you that path to upper mobility is more reduced than ever?

Sounds like your beef is more with his deep voice than the message he delivers.
