Just watch YouTube and you can build your own house when you get off work.

Do you even "work", Rog?

With the way the middle class is shrinking, seems most future jobs will be fixing and cleaning shite for super rich people.

Middle class is shrinking slightly, but the upper class is growing faster.

And why do you think engineering is safe from AI?

I dont think engineering is safe at every level but what is safe is that someone who can understand how a piece of equipment or a process works and design it, or work on it, will be in decent shape in the future.

You do you. I used a professional set of builders manuals.

It requires reading, I know that an issue for your generation.

what do you think happens to this country or your son’s economic future if most high earning jobs disappear over night? There is no scenario where your kid is untouched because he’s welding.

High earning jobs aren't going to disappear over night. They're going to change though, and they will become more competitive. They ARE however going to disappear over a generation, and it's going to largely shift during our children's emergence through the job market.

Further, I'm not trying to just tell him to learn to weld. I'm telling him to learn to weld before everybody else is learning to weld, and then start a company that welds. Then that company would hire people learning to weld.

Ironic that this company is building the chips for AI that is making a lot of professional jobs obsolete.

Mike Rowe hasn't worked a trade job for a LIVING in his whole life. An opera singer turned tv host turned paid shill by big construction.

You think he is doing all that because he's altruistic

So you disagree with him? Is he wrong?

I’m assuming you mean that once these companies sold out to PE that there is pressure to sell unnecessary plumbing repairs?

Yeah you hit the nail on the head there. Private equity is destroying so many industries. I don't need AI to teach me how to talk to customers.

This speech was a year ago, but I found it really eye opening.

Basically the job market is gonna suck for about 10-15 years while jobs wane and artificial intelligence grows.

I’m not too optimistic about any of this. I think it’s all very short sighted.

It is short sighted, which is why it will suck until a new system is fully in place.

There will be a lot more winners and losers.

My Granddaughter is going prelaw in school, I'm not sure what the future holds in that arena.

But everything is kind of a guessing game right now.

I’m pretty sure most electricians apprenticeships require college. Might be only an associates degree but a bachelors degree won’t hurt.

Crazy story a guy told me once about showing up for an electrician apprenticeship interview. He said anyone not wearing a suit and tie was not even considered for the program. I mean who would think clean work boots clean blue jeans and a nice collar shirt would be an instant non acceptance to a program for a construction job.

He said it was a regular occurrence where a highly qualified young guy would be turned away for not dressing like he was interviewing for an office job. He said it would drive him nuts but the rest of the board would rarely make an exception.

Yeah, I don't think Elon's 'Universal Basic Income' is going to be the answer, but it's likely going to be some kind of shift or correction. People in wealth management, or bank loans, or IT aren't going to just be laid off in a whim. But these industries are going to tighten. Friend of mine is in IT and works for a pretty big insurance company. He's said there's people in his department who are flat out rejecting AI. He on the other hand is using it in every capacity he can. His rationale is that the ones who are rejecting it will be the first cuts, because their inability to use it as a tool makes them inefficient and expendable. Instead, focus on it. Pay attention to it's innovation as it happens so you can use it.

Nvidia financial worth is 100% tied to AI growth. Everyone who’s talking about how AI is going to replace most white collar jobs has a massive financial interest in AI succeeding and has to convince investors to keep pouring billions into it.

Of course not. Be an electrician.

But if you get a flood of people retraining to be electricians and plumbers and carpenters...all of those wages are going to go down.

I do my best to not worry about things I can't control, and there's always some sort of fear cycle..and AI is the latest one. We'll see how it plays out.
