Delta Air Lines will no longer serve snacks and drinks to these passengers
Delta is eliminating in-flight beverage and snack service on select routes. Here's what travelers need to know.
Delta Air Lines has announced a distance-based service overhaul that eliminates complimentary snacks and beverages on routes of 349 miles or fewer. The policy applies only to Main Cabin and Delta Comfort+ passengers, not to those seated in first class.

Ah, yet another response to “changing consumer behavior” as a result of the influx of former Spirit passengers.

Jet fuel futures price just got the snacks.
Airline business is a razor thin margins. Doors close fast after 9/11 and when crude prices jolt up.

No reason anyone should be upset about no beverage service on an hour flight.

This won’t impact us OT ballers who only fly first class. Sorry for the poors.

We’re getting less for more.

Meh. These are mainly going to be the short flights with high capacity, like ATL to Orlando. Those are flights which are about an hour-and-a-half from gate to gate with only 45 minutes of that being air time. Knock 10-20 minutes off that for ascending and descending periods where flight crews have to be belted in and you wind up with 25-35 minutes for the flight crew to do drink service, food service and then collect trash for the whole plane.
For that route, it's usually Delta's Airbus 350 with the average load being ~300 people. There's simply not enough time for high-capacity flights like that to adequately service so many people.
Besides, you can bring food and drink on the plane.

They’ve been doing ok doing drinks and snacks for years. Are you telling me it’s getting more difficult? Also, what’s a flight attendant supposed to do if not be busy working like every other job.

It's the end stage of capitalism. Over the long run, it leads to worsening quality of life for consumers.

This is very petty of Delta. Short term thinking.

The flight attendants are there mainly to ensure passenger safety and clean the plane, being sky-waiters/tresses is only a secondary function.

It's always been a chore to service those flights that aren't much more than going up then coming down. As the planes have grown to add more passengers (for example, the same ATL/MCO flight on Delta averaged ~100 passengers in 1995), it's become more difficult especially if there's turbulence, kids being allowed to run up and down the aisle, etc. I've been on flights that length where they didn't even roll the carts.
This also means those shorter flights turn around faster without having to clean up as much after a few hundred people and they don't have to take as long to re-stock.
I've gone on Delta flights like that before where instead of inflight service they've had snacks and drinks on the jetway, so you picked something up as you were walking down to the plane. If pushback is strong enough, they might do something like that more often.
