I don't see a world where I would take a flight 349 miles or less (as opposed to driving)
Why the hell would I drive to Atlanta to catch an international flight vs flying from my regional airport on a 40 minute flight?

This is very petty of Delta. Short term thinking.
This will all come back once a Spirit replacement is found and it’s not them

Delta's Gross Profit is almost double what is was 10 years ago

How many fare options does delta have now? There's a ton of options. Personally I don't give a shite whether I get a drink or snack on short flights. Now if it's a 4 hour flight or international sure.

Imagine being a consumer and being anti-consumer. How dumb are you, son?
Posted on 5/7/26 at 12:21 pm to Salmon
Why would you use gross profit vs net profit?
Posted on 5/7/26 at 12:22 pm to DCtiger1
Because it doesn’t fit his position.
Posted on 5/7/26 at 12:23 pm to DCtiger1
I'm not anti consumer
. I fly more than the majority of this board. This just doesn't matter to me or impact my desire to fly delta whatsoever.

I bring my empty owala bottle through security and stop at an airport bar to get it filled with ice and water for free.
ETA: I also get upgraded to first for free on about 80% of my flights and still do this

which is what Delta is banking on
They know most people won't care. Its just like McDonalds knows that most people won't get a refill if they have to ask.
Its these little half a % reductions in services that adds up to millions in profit gain and slowly fricks the consumer over time

If expenses are higher, and they are cutting expenses, why isn't keeping flights at the same cost acceptable? It's more expensive in 2026 to provide the same flight compared to 2025.

I’m ok with McDonald’s doing this. They aren’t saying no refills, they are saying no more abuse of it.
Did McDonalds say the number of refills is now limited?

I could begrudgingly accept this if gross profits were not increasing YoY

How much are you frickers expecting a bag of peanuts and 4 oz of coke to knock off of your fares?
Posted on 5/7/26 at 12:28 pm to DCtiger1
Then surely they will bring back snack services to these fares or cut fares prices when fuel prices drop in the future and its no longer as expensive for Delta to provide these flights....right?

Deltas hasn't though. In 2020 their net profit was -12.39 billion. Due to something completely unexpected and out of their control.
2023 their net profit was 4.6 billion
2024, it was 3.46 billion
Margins for airlines are razor thin and the slightest economic dip can cause profits to go in the shitter year over year.
This change is one way to stabilize expenses on short flights. Every short flight I've taken over the last 7 years has already been this way, so I'm not sure why this is news to begin with.

Maybe they will, but it won't make a bit of difference in who I choose to fly with because my main concern is getting to my destination not whether I'm getting a bag of chips and a coke mid flight.
