They hit powerlines and cause outages. It's why they've been banned in New Orleans for a few years.

The facts:

Vehicles cause more power outages than party balloons. While metallic (Mylar) balloons trigger hundreds to thousands of localized utility disruptions annually by short-circuiting power lines, motor vehicle accidents striking utility poles rank significantly higher as a standard, widespread cause of distribution grid failures across power company tracking data.

People like you are why I can no longer take my grandchildren to the circus. Always bitching about something insignificant.

Exactly. They are not going to prosecute a six year old. Another waste of taxpayer dollars to satisfy a tree hugger.

What’s supposed to occur now when the wholesome Pookie gets gunned down when a drug deal (that he obviously played no role in) goes bad? His friends and family has got to do something for the local news crew to show solidarity. Maybe that’s just Port Arthur.

What's next? Are they going to ban fun?

Do you find throwing fast food bags from your car window fun? Balloon releases are no different.

100th day of kindergarten. Everyone went out and released a balloon with a card attached that had our school, class, name, and wish wish a request if found to send back to the school with a note of where it went.

Same! Only I think we were a little older. Maybe 2nd or 3rd grade. Dumbest thing ever.

Good law I always worry about losing cattle from choking on balloons. I found one in one of my fields in Northern OK all of the way from an elementary school in central TX.

Its a problem for sea turtles too because they eat jelly fish, and they might mistakenly eat a balloon thinking its a jelly. Same with plastic bags in the ocean.

Now that I know this I’m calling my congressman to advocate for mass breeding of sea turtles in tourist beach areas. Nothing worse than being in the water knee deep or especially swimming to the sandbar and finding yourself surrounded by those frickers.

Good point as that was my first thought. Unless they start hunting Facebook posts

Balloon releases are very common in the black community.

I bet this gets enforced as often as slow left lane driving laws and cell phone laws while driving. Nice posturing but shite won’t actually be done.

Twenty years ago, some one in the Krewe of Hercules thought it was a good idea. They made it to the turn at the Mall, the confetti hit the power lines and created a light show like no other, half of Houma lost power because of the Mylar confetti.

I found a YouTube video of the incident:
