Impressive young man!

Seriously? There are hundreds of other colleges he could have wasted his time applying for and could have smashed that record.

Believe some schools use a single standard application which is sent to all

but muh intrenotional baclucureate!!1!

Seriously, with all the try-hard overachiever crap high schoolers do now, I'd have been lucky to get wait-listed at SLU. I read something the other day saying elite schools want a "demonstrated history of activism." Like, hurry up and act butthurt about something or you'll never get into Miami of Ohio!

Feel sorry for those kids.

There are definitely moms (usually from India) who figure out how to work system to get added benefit and which classes to take which might not be as hard. Minimizing the amount of regular scaled classes early on was part of it which pre-AP with until scaled back in weight. Those kids were still very smart and did the work (every tutorial place I see has kids of Indian descent coming & going), but they did gain a small advantage in GPA over some students whose parents were not as focused initially on maximizing GPA through classes above the 4 point scale or not taking others (until reform repeatedly taking band or sports period could be negative on 5 point scale calculations).

Yep. You nailed it. As many AP, Pre AP as possible and as few on level as possible. They figure out that some classes can be taken pass/fail and therefore avoid a grade at all and exclude it from the GPA.

He didn’t get a $10M offer, he got 125 offers totaling $9M, averaging $72,000 per offer

$9 million in scholarship offers and you choose Xavier?

What are the chances that 100+ of those offers came from the 100+ HBCUs all over the country. Then you add all of the other smaller schools (think FCS programs), and Xavier very well may have been one of the better options.

Who paid these application fees? That's over $10k in application fees if each app is ~$50(some are more like $75)

That’s about as dumb as the kids I know who get partial athletic scholarships to play sports out of state. X school offers ~20k total money on a 120k education for an out of state kid.
Hell for criminal justice he can go to a local school with tops for free and live at home.

Good for him but what a colossal waste of time. I mean what’s the point in applying to that many? To see who gives the best scholarship?

I mean, that's a plus.

Colleges waive the fee for applicants of a certain financial standing.

Black folks with a modicum of intelect and discipline get ALL the doors opened for them.

Means little.

Hopefully he makes the most of the charity.
