62.5% acceptance rate. Just keeps applying until hits a cumulative number.

Does he think he gets all that instead of just what the school he chooses offers?

The below alone should invalidate this as a news worthy accomplishment
quote:

Barnes said he is hoping to total $10 million in scholarship offers by the end of the month.

$9 million in scholarship offers and you choose Xavier?

I mean it's not a bad school I don't think. But c'mon.

That's likely the best university that accepted her.

Those 2 girls who worked on the Pythagorean Theorem could double this scholarship money if they wanted, but they're likely going to be recruited by top schools.

No mention of his ACT/SAT score.

The GPA is an accomplishment. Everything above a 4.0 is just a game. Meaning, taking 5 point classes just because they are worth 5 points. Not because you can get dual credit for them or adding more 4 pt STEM classes as electives.

ACT/SAT scores impress me, not GPAs. He might be king of the dumbasses.

This BS needs to stop...it's a 4-point scale.

There is a pretty big difference between AP Calculus and advanced math. Both of which are offered as a math credit to high school seniors.

Did he have to pay an application fee X 200? I imagine that's what $25 or $50 per?

That is what is so frustrating about this. Many that do this get the application fees waived. As such, they are wasting most of the colleges' time and money to process their applications and getting scholarships committed to them that could go to others that could use the funds. He obviously cannot use even a fraction of those scholarships, so they will go unused. It is selfish act to get attention IMO.

On top of just applying to a ton a schools and pushing cumulative total. Possible offers from better schools covered less of tuition and other costs to attend.

Not sure if still happening, but with Wuhan when some schools like LSU were waiving out of state fees they would include that number totaled over 4 years in awarded total sent to students.

With Louisiana’s tuition program TOPs it’s not like the listed in-state tuition was what most in-state students were paying, so out of state students still paying more.

Not knocking this student's intelligence but something is amiss here.
What is the point of applying to 200 different universities/colleges ?
First I would have a major chosen first then find five good schools in that field and then apply to those. And make a visit, you may not like the Univ. of Wisconsin in February if you are a native of NOLA.

He applied to 200 schools?
I thought some of our pair down announcements on the recruiting board were too long.

Who tracks this shite?

And there is no way there is genuine interest in going to 200 or even 125 different schools. All you're doing is wasting a lot of peoples time, including your own.

As far as tracking goes, the high school asks your kid to tell them how much in scholarships you received (not how much you accepted) because they want to be able to say the class of 2023 received X $$$ to make themselves sound like a good school. At awards night they announced each senior's total $$'s awarded along with any special awards and where they were going to college. I had to help my daughter (no pics) figure this out 13 years ago.

Yes, I think they are wasting time. There is no way they are truly considering all those schools. If you're really undecided, maybe it's 10 schools you apply to.

I agree. But on the other hand a student who isn't very sophisticated might really have a hard time fitting in at an Ivy, Stanford, or many more elite schools, both private and public. She may very well be more successful at Xavier, where she feels she belongs.

For many districts and schools There is big difference in AP classes over regular ones, but even within those there are still some that seem more like pre-AP. At one point Pre-AP classes were 4.5 or letter grades bumped (or both I can’t remember), and at some schools several classes were almost regular class.

There are definitely moms (usually from India) who figure out how to work system to get added benefit and which classes to take which might not be as hard. Minimizing the amount of regular scaled classes early on was part of it which pre-AP helped with until scaled back in weight. Those kids were still very smart and did the work (every tutorial place I see has kids of Indian descent coming & going), but they did gain a small advantage in GPA over some students whose parents were not as focused initially on maximizing GPA through classes above the 4 point scale or not taking others (until reform repeatedly taking band or sports period could be negative on 5 point scale calculations).
