received acceptance letters from 125 schools
It will cost him about $2500 for hats to reveal his school choice on facebook live

This should underscore how hard it is to find a black college applicant these days.
You makes no sense. The guy applied at 200 institutions. Being accepted at 125 of them is not overly impressive to suggest a race narrative.

What is the average cost of an application fee these days? That alone would be a chunk of cash to waste when you're only attending one school.
There's a bunch of students in this country who could pile up scholarship offers if they have the time and money to apply to hundreds of schools. Someone will likely break this record again in the next couple of years for no reason.

Many schools have either drastically lowered their application fee, have a waiver one can apply for, or have done away with an application fee all together. It has been labeled as a "barrier to students" applying to colleges and universities.

$9 million in scholarship offers and you choose Xavier?
I mean it's not a bad school I don't think. But c'mon.

Not to diminish his efforts, but having recently gone through this (multiple times in last few years), here are some clarifications:
#1 You can apply to many, maybe hundreds of schools, with a single online application process. Each school would offer the same scholarship amount to hundreds of students each year.
#2 While we had to pay from $25-$50 each for most applications (We are not OT wealthy, BTW), certain demographics have the fees waived.
#3 The scholarships are not money he receives, it is only a credit towards his tuition/costs at that particular school. Sometimes there is extra added for walking around money. With his GPA alone, surely he won some actual cash scholarships as well, but only a tiny fraction of that total.
#4 A substantial quantity of that is only available to certain demographics; maybe he's Baptist, has 11 toes, can yodel, has multiple personalities or sometimes even race can be a factor!
His GPA is certainly a testament, and he is surely a standout in multiple facets. Lets hope he puts his blessings to good and noble use!

Serious question, because I honestly don't know the answer. What happens to all those scholarships for specific schools that he chooses to not attend? Do they go to the runner-up or is that forfeit?
Back when I graduated high school I received a scholarship for a pre-vet student from Louisiana for Auburn University. I'm not sure there was anyone else that even applied for it, but it was my understanding that when I ended up at LSU instead it just was not awarded. It was only $500 but I felt pretty bad about it at the time. I'm sure that most of these scholarships are school sponsored but to run up that number he had to apply for some obscure ones as well.

Wouldn't it be better to Take the Money & Run?

It’s like $100-200 per application, his family spent a ton on those applications
Posted on 4/25/23 at 1:25 pm to HenryParsons
With a son going through this.. it’s mind numbing how inflated college has become.

Such a racist and discriminatory country
Race baiting should be fricking illegal

I don't know his financial situation, but if his family is poor, he could have applied for need based waivers. If he did get waivers, talk about a waste of charity.

$9 million/125 is 72 grand per school
Damn tuition is out of control

Is the $9 million the cumulative application fees? Or were those waived for being wasis?

Did he have to pay an application fee X 200? I imagine that's what $25 or $50 per?
It was about $25 in the mid 90s. Gotta be at least $50, likely more, today. Even $25 x 200 is like what? 350? $5k?

International High School of New Orleans
NOLA people, is this school legit or is it like the Breaux Bridge charter school that got famous for getting kids accepted to Ivy League schools only for an investigation to discover that the founders were cooking the numbers and resumes to make the kids, and therefore the school, look better?
