i bet he won't try and steal anymore

Swiping a wallet doesn’t justify his death. If he had a gun or another weapon, sure, he would have dug his own grave. But, the guy should rightfully be charged with his death. Unless he carries only cash, anything else can be solved with a few phone calls.
I sat on a jury a few years ago and convicted a homeless man of second degree murder of another homeless man for stealing his bike

Woah. I get it if he pulled a gun or knife on someone. That takes a certain mentality to be ready to harm. Just pick pocketing though warrants getting killed? That’s some Middle Ages mindset right there with you people.
If it happened more often, then maybe crime would decrease

Game of Thrones is not real dude(although the accused does kinda look like a wildling).
Ya gotta put a stop to their nonsense permanently.

If our legal system wouldn't just put the thief right back out on the streets, I'd prefer letting the authorities handle it.
But since thieves typically do get released fairly quickly, I'm all for street justice like this.

I would have gone for manslaughter, but oh well.

Or embolden petty criminals to take more drastic approaches. Slippery slope.

I think he needs to be charged with manslaughter and get at least probation.
But not going to lose any sleep over it if he walks free.

Uh, manslaughter isn’t a light charge. A conviction means prison time.

My liberal arse is locked and loaded, especially when I'm in the city. My cheek definitely won't turn if it's physically threatened. Expand your limited pre-conceptions.

I see your point. The world has plenty of population in it though, so one less thief/thug doesn't bother me in the least bit. The thing is that it's no one's fault but the attempted robber, himself, in his death. I base this not on law, but on cause and effect. Yeah, the guy didn't have the legal right to kill the thief, but there is no hindsight in this story for the thief. He went into the situation ignorantly thinking he'd get a wallet without repercussion. I would not convict this victim for murder, would set a good strong precedent for pos thieves.

Depends. I'd advise you to calm down quickly if SWAT is coming through the door.

this is total bs...had he just busted his lip and broke some ribs i bet he wouldn't have been charged with a crime
Posted on 8/13/18 at 1:15 pm to Steadyhands
As people have said, circumstances matter. If he hit him a couple of times and the guy died, then not really guilty of anything. If he curb stomped the guy, then the sick guy needs to be put away..

I learned long ago not to have my wallet in my back pocket in New Orleans.
